If you’re not moving them, just deleting…..highlite all the clips you’re going to trash in the project bin, right click, and select make offline. 3 options will come up. select delete from disk.
Saves from having to hunt them down!

I’m sure you can come up with $20 for a new firewire hard drive enclosure. Grab a screwdriver and make the swap, or drop another $70 to put a faster 1TB drive in there. Since you’re in high school, I’m sure it being firewire 400 will be fine

fun. I work for a fishing show….if there’s a shot of a compass somewhere in the footage for whatever bait or resort we’re showcasing, it will ALWAYS make its way into the show, somehow/somewhere.

what you’re looking to do is commonly referred to as the “Ken Burns” effect.
Check this tuturial…you’re looking for #9 of the list of ten (it counts backwards, so it’s actually the second tip of the video.) -
Hit shift+S to enable/disable scrubbing.
I also like editing using the waveform. Search your manual for how to enable “Show Audio Waveform” to check it out. You may like that method better for precision work.

Look under “System Settings” and look to see where the video render and audio render files are supposed to go, and adjust accordingly. You may also want to look into the waveform and thumbnail cache locations while you’re at it.

Try using the mask shape along with mask feather. Center and size the mask where you want, in your case probably using the rectangle shape. Then crank up the feather to get the gradient you want.

What about when you do an assemble edit using Edit to Tape?

I wouldn’t worry about waveform, thumbnail, and autosave. The first two will rebuild automatically very quickly, and AS is small enough you wouldn’t need to dump those.
As far as Scratch, if you set one main destination for everything, FCP will automatically create a new folder with your project’s name. You can then save this folder to whatever drive you choose when archiving. And, if you need to revisit the project, you can quickly reconnect your media to the new location…should only take a minute to do so.
