Which MPEG-4 option are you using? I just used the MP4 option (not the MP4 (ISMA) and it let me set a custom video size on the right side – set mine to 1024 x 576 (I’m in PAL) and the aspect raito was correct when viewed in QT.

You could try manipulating them at the Finder level by writing a script (easy) with Automator. You’d then have to re-import your footage though, which might reek havoc with your timeline.

I’ve had the same problem for quite a while now – most annoying. Ever since upgrading to 10.4 and FCP 5. We suspect our AJA KONA2 card cuz it doesn’t happen on our other 2 suites which are BlackMagic DeckLinks. We are now on FCP 5.0.3, MacOS 10.4.2 and QT 7.0.3

If the AVI won’t playback in QT, check out this page for some further advice:

I’ve been struggling with the reverse – NTSC to PAL.

After converting in QT to .mov, it will playback in FCP, but mine was jerky due to it still being NTSC in a PAL timeline. You might use one of the many filters out there for FCP to convert standards.

You can also hit ‘command-option W’ to toggle the displaying of all waveforms without having to go to the preferences window.

  • Never had that problem before.

Have you tried exporting as a reference movie instead of a self-contained? If you are going to iDVD, a reference movie should work with the chapter marks.

Also, here is a great site if you have any questions about iDVD:
