If you changed the Sequence Settings in the A/V Settings, that applies only to any new sequences created since you changed the settings. To change the settings for a sequence already created, select the sequence in the Browser, and hit CMD+0 (zero). The changes you make there apply only to the sequence you selected.

It depends on the project.
Most of the time, by the time I get to B-Roll, content is already nailed down. There should be no need to trim or ripple the main layer.
But that is a very good point for when you are still futzing with contnet and trying to add B-Roll at the same time.

I’m not in front of my system right now to test this, but have you tried selecting your “sub-sequences” in the browser (after dragging them there first, of course!), right-click (or CTRL-click if you are of the one-button mouse persuasion), select “Make sequence clips independent”.
Then open it up in the Viewer, what happens then? Do you still get the whole original clip with your in and out points, like before, or does it do what you’re expecting, or something else?

Well, sorta, but for different reasons.
This way, you don’t mess with the main, or “A” layer, and it gives you much nore freedom to scoot “B”-Roll around without worrying about leaving a gap or a flash frame, or having to fill a hole if you move something. Fewer keystrokes/mouse moves makes for more efficient editing.
FCP has virtually limitless video layers. I say use ’em!

…and from now on, do your cutaways on a separate track above the main track. Makes it much easier to slide them around and remove them all together without having to futz with the main track every time there’s a tiny change.

Another option is to copy the new logo in the Browser using CMD-c. Right click (or CTRL+click if you are of the one-button mouse persuasion) on the clip you want replaced in the timeline and choose “Paste Attributes”. Then tick the box for “Content”, and it should swap the files, leaving all filters and motion tab settings intact.

I have GIMP installed on both my G5 tower and my G4 laptop.
I’ve had no problems like you’ve encountered with it.
FCP doesn’t like psds generated by GIMP like it does out of Photoshop, though. It’s like getting psds from a PC. No layers…that sort of thing.
I’ve installed it a total of four times, as I’ve upgraded both my machines, and I’ve never had the problem you’ve described.

Yep! I couldn’t agree more.
Faster workflows, however, lead to fewer coffee breaks!!
I’m all for faster workflows, but I like getting up and walking away, too!
