Anyone using GIMP?
Hi There,
Just wondering if anyone else uses the GIMP image processing program successfully. After installing it, along with the X11 toolset, FC Studio crashes. No bueno. I could reinstall, but I could use the 2 hours it takes to do other things. 😉Kevin Monahan

I have GIMP installed on both my G5 tower and my G4 laptop.
I’ve had no problems like you’ve encountered with it.
FCP doesn’t like psds generated by GIMP like it does out of Photoshop, though. It’s like getting psds from a PC. No layers…that sort of thing.
I’ve installed it a total of four times, as I’ve upgraded both my machines, and I’ve never had the problem you’ve described.

This may be out in left field, but I had a problem when I had VLC media player open, then opened FCP it would stall or crash hard (kernel panic).
After a couple FCP reinstalls and playing around, I found that trashing my quicktime prefs cleared FCP without a reinstall. Of course, I haven’t opened them at the same time again.
I don’t know if GIMP makes use of quicktime, but thought I’d throw it out there.

DOH! Close. I get the FCP Window and when it hits a certain plug in, it crashes. Looks like I’ll have to troubleshoot my plug ins folder. More later!

I found a workaround. I made a New User and then FCP will launch. That will do for now while I troubleshoot my admin account, I guess! Thanks all.
