Video DV …or any SP formate is usually 72 dpi ( so that is a god place to start) however since you are scanning photography you might wanna scan at the 600dpi that mostprinted photography is. . .
as far as size settings scan however you like for size espeicially if you are moving them aound the larger the better since I assume you are scanning them into photoshop using the import function? Yes?
Since photo shop is raster based make them bigger then you need on the initial scan you can always do a constrained scale to get them to the size you want in AE …

    This may work.

Convert the text to a 3-d layer. at the frame where the paint hits create a second text layer in the exact proportions of the original. you can pretty much dublicate (CMND +D) the layer and delete all key frames from the upper most layer then move one of the two txt layers one pixel infron to the other So that in 3D space one is closer to your active camera veiw. . . take the Opacity of the Front TXT layer (the one you just moved forvard one pixel ((F-TXT)) ) take F-TXT layer oppacity to zero and Key fram it one frame before the splatter hits. On the frame where the spatter hits, change the opacity value of the F-TXT layer too 100% .Okay Now using theTXT tool high-light F-TXT and alter its color value to the color value Exactlyof the paint splatter.
hmm? Now go to the Effects menu and add a liquiy tool out of the distort menu to the F-TXT layer… then paint it down to creat the dripping effect. . . .(Experiment until it looks right)

Oh and here is a cool though add a drop shadow to (effects > Perspective >drop shadow.) make one for both TXT layers FTXT and the other and make them the exact color of the back ground and then thate the shadow Opacity too 100 and it position the shadow so that it looks like when the paint hit the letters the letters blocked it from hitting the background. like a stencil… or something.

After the initial rotation value change, move a few frames forward and change the value back a little so that it rotates back up a little then move a few frames forward and move it back to the value of the total fall… Repeate each time the lesser rotation value should be less distant from the complete rotaion until they are the same…

Oh a null layer, thanks that might work, uhm, could you explain that a little further though I always have trouble when dealing with Null layers. Thanks, in advance…

sorry about the tarty reply, Ihave been frame by frame painting a computer moniter, people need to learn how to light and shoot for compositing.

Oh I had another follow up question as well, when I try to do the four point Pin thing the porn page seems to jump out infront of the moniter, which would be totally titht for a three dee futeroristic hollowgraphic type thing but doesn’t quite work here.. is this something to do with the layer being 3d so that the light layer can affect it or am I just doing somnething drastically wrong?
