hey,
So, any news on the “FCP X gets slow when using many compound clips” ?I break up projects into “scenes” (20 seconds to 3 minutes each, average ~1m30), then use “reference new parent” to try out different edits of a scene.
Problem is, gets slow. tried deleting .flexolibrary file, resetting preferences (command-option while starting fcp x), doesn’t make a difference. My “currentversion.fcpevent” in the event folder (not in the project folder) is 2 gigs… guess it contains all the compound clips
any solution to this? this “reference new parent” workflow is one big reason why FCP X is better than premiere pro/davinci resolve etc. so getting rid of this workflow is a non-starter ☺
anyone found some solutions? moving some projects to another event? offloading old compoundclips somewhere, but how? does using “duplicate project as snapshot” make a difference?

April 3, 2015 at 10:11 am in reply to: Searching for Specific Marker in Event Browser ClipsHi!
Still no solution to find clip markers positions?Incidentally, if I “open in timeline” a master clip, then position the playhead somewhere (perhaps searching the “video track clip markers” inside the clip), is there a way to sync that playhead to the browser to I can edit from there?
Cheers

For me, top of the list for an update is avid-like script integration (even without automatic speech-to-script sync)
for fiction work with a lot of takes with different tones and such, I just can’t do without – too much time searching for one line in all takes to compare and choose the best one.
it’s basically forcing me to use avid…
-
well for me even when words are changed and small improvs are made, it’s still very useful to be able to click on a line and go directly to the time where the actor says that line, responds to the previous line
so I can compare quickly and in context the different tones and wording styles of how a character could answer a line, etc. – without having to spend time finding the right time in each take, which breaks the process…
-
thanks… even if it’s bad news 🙂
script integration seems obvious to me for fiction editing, but apparently it’s not!

hi,
As somebody said before, in Avid’s script integration there is a unified view of the screenplay + all the takes right inside, which allows us to see what takes include this line of dialogue, compare them quickly, takes the best take etc.
it is true the sync has to be a manual process until the scriptsync licensing issues are resolved, but this view of takes it’s still ultra-useful, especially in fiction, when takes have different energy, varying tones, and the edit wants to use all that richness etc.
does that “script integration view of takes” exist in FCP X or Premiere Pro? I’ve searched the net, it doesn’t seem so… any solutions?

Fast forward a year and a half later, with FCP X 10.0.0.9
1) import layered .PSD into FCP X creates black shadows around transparent layers
2) I can change the .PSD file, it does update right away in both the event browser and the project’s timeline, preserving everything: position, movement of layers
BUT: – if I change a layer’s “bounding box” (ie if I draw outside of the box that contains every pixel of a layer) and then reimport, the position of the layer in FCP X is messed up.
– if I add new layers and reimport, FCP X doesn’t see the new layer and mixes other layers with the new one (probably taking layers by their order, not their names?)I’m trying to create simple animated storyboards in FCP X (importing the .PSD from sketchbook pro), and it “kinda works”
anyone having the same problems?

May 30, 2012 at 11:25 pm in reply to: Transfer a AVID project from my old pc to my new macHi,
What if I want to move all media from a single project to a new drive – for achiving purposes and freeing up space?
I don’t want to move all my “avid mediafiles/1” to the new drive, only the media from a project I finished.
Should I go to all the different bins in the project and “consolidate video and audio” (for masterclips and sequences, since I need to move precomputes too), or is there a quicker way that moves everything related to a project?
Thanks
