    Hello everybody!

I have a big problem since i have bought my new imac:

how can i transfer my projects including media files and the project folder itself to my new imac without loosing the file connections?

i’ve installed macdrive on my pc and now i can write the “Media Files” folder and the Project Folders to my HFS+ formated external 1TB drive.
now i can connect my external drive to my imac and transfer the media files to my internal 2TB-iMac drive. (by the way: when i installed the avid media composer to my imac i made this 2TB drive to the media drive…there are the media files of my newest projects!)…i’ve copied my project folder to the imac and opened it. but all the media files are offline!!!!

how can i connect the clips in the bins again to the media files on my imac….? they lose the connection, because the path changed! btw i’m not able to copie the media files (that were transfered fromn the pc) into the “Media Files” folder on the internal mac drive.

thanks a lot for your help! what would you do, to transfer your files when changing from a pc-user to a mac-user?

    carlo

    p.s.:
using my usb stick i’ve already transfered my Avid User Presets (like my custom keyboard settings and so on) to the imac and opened them there.

Make sure that you place the media on that 2TB drive in the right folder and subfolders. Avid does not use the path, but the media database, you can easily move media to another drive without having to relink.

If your media is OMF, it should reside in a folder named “OMFI MediaFiles”, which should sit on the root level of that drive.

If your media is MXF, it should reside in a subfolder named “1” or “2” or any other number, which should reside in a folder named “Avid MediaFiles” which should reside at the root level of that drive.

You can force the Avid to rebuild the databases for those folders, by manually deleting the msm.pmr files. They will rebuild when you launch the Avid.

After that, the Avid will know where you media lives, and the clips will link (connect) to that media.

    Hi,

What if I want to move all media from a single project to a new drive – for achiving purposes and freeing up space?

I don’t want to move all my “avid mediafiles/1” to the new drive, only the media from a project I finished.

Should I go to all the different bins in the project and “consolidate video and audio” (for masterclips and sequences, since I need to move precomputes too), or is there a quicker way that moves everything related to a project?

    Thanks
    D.
