I would go with the letterbox option. I know there is some opposition to it but I think as it becomes more common that is lessening. As pointed out in the thread, we are dealing with a transitionary phase. In a few years it probably won’t matter at all….. we’ll be dealing with some other transitionary phase. I can hear it now….. “how can I package my 2D material for best viewing on the new home hologram systems?”

Personally I think there is a HUGE problem with that. How do you compose an image that is the best it can be if you’re trying to frame it in two different sizes and aspect ratios? Maybe some people don’t have a problem with that but I’ve never been able to shoot properly that way. I think you come away with two compromised frames and no good one.

Thanks for your response Chrispy.

Silly me, it was indeed a simple setting issue. I forgot to check the View>External Video setting in FCP, which likes to reset itself to “Off” sometimes when you change setups. Thanks to Rudy at AJA support for pointing that out. Since no video was coming out of Final Cut, it didn’t take control of the Kona card.

More correctly, no video is getting through the Kona card from Final Cut. As mentioned in the first post, I can see test patterns and I can see the Mac desktop when the Control Panel is set to Macinstosh Desktop.

I have reseated and restarted. Shut down the whole system and restarted….. no change.

I don’t have any experience with it, but for $69 there’s the Motion Tracker Collection from CVH, a set of Final Cut plug-ins that includes a stabilizer.

Perhaps you’re assuming it’s an HD camcorder, and he’s using an HD camera without an onboard recorder.

From trying it out and reading their website, I think this free version only stamps the time into the movie, starting at 0. It doesn’t read the actual timecode. Looks like they’re going to offer a pro version that will read smpte at some future time.

Some of the logging and cataloging software will do the job. CatDV has a “Verbatim Logger” function that allows one key capture of timecode from a movie file within a text box. You could import a transcript or type as you go. HD Log may have a similar function, I’m not sure.

Did you go through that process just to get the same audio on each angle? I’ve only used multiclip a few times but I always did it from the original source clips and haven’t had the problem you’re seeing. You can set the multiclip to use audio from only one angle, it doesn’t have to be set for “audio follow video”. I would try a test multiclip that way and see if you still have the problem. It may be there is some problem with the quicktime movies you created.

I agree with Walter. The only exception being I do have my editing machine hooked via ethernet to a dsl router. Getting software updates, downloading plug-ins and the like are easier when they go right to the machine they’ll be used on.

I use Apple’s Mail program for email, but I run it on a powerbook. Some people got really turned off with Mail when they tried version 1. It was a buggy disgrace. Newer versions are very stable however, and I haven’t had any problems with them. The Junk mail learning feature rocks!
