It sounds fine Duke, though I’m not familiar with that version of the DNX codec – typically, you will see a number associated with the DNX codecs, such DNX 135, 185, 225, etc. But the odds are you’ll be just fine transcoding to the one you mentioned.

Guys, go back and visit Scene Detection if you haven’t tried it in a while, cuz it works a whole lot better now. Yes, it still can’t handle fades and dissolves, as it does its job using contrast differences between frames, however it’s very easy to move between the cuts it detects using keyboard commands N for Next, P for Previous, and – for deleting a bad cut the software had added, and + to add one in a spot it might have missed. And, you can now save and name the versions of scene detection you might do on any project so you can recall what you were doing at a later date should you need to for any reason, such as not finishing you fixes of fades and dissolves in a long-form timeline etc.

I was very resistant to using it myself, but had to recently, and I was very pleasantly surprised at well it now works since version 12.

When it’s no longer beta software – i.e. Blackmagic, unlike many other companies these days is honest and they don’t release software that’s not been thoroughly tested without letting their customers know the true state of the software development. So, you’ll have wait a few months before you’re likely to see 12.5 on the App Store.

The software is free, and if you try to install it on a machine with the wrong version of OSX or hardware that’s not up to snuff the software will warn you.
