[jeremie galan] “can’t tell if i’m in the right way or should i consider building (with an IT guy, a less expensive 10 gbe NAS from something like a Promise R2 raid and server box ).”
Jeremie,
Why start from scratch with an IT guy who doesn’t know the requirements of streaming video?
Our Platform Studio is certainly within your budget parameters, and it can accommodate a built-in LTO tape drive as well.
Call me at 310/729-7906 or Skype me at drwfilms if you need more info.

I’m interested to know exactly what flavor of R3D files you’re using Keith?
Don’t know if you’re aware that RED can shoot at many different compression ratios: i.e. uncompressed, 10:1, 8:1, 5:1, 3:1, 2:1, etc.?

March 13, 2014 at 9:32 pm in reply to: RAID/Storage solution for small production companyHi Alexander,
We at ProMAX have the perfect solution for small workgroups like yours, check out our Platform Studio shared storage at: https://image.promax.com/web/company/sales_tools/ProMAX_platform_studio.pdf.
Platform Studio is a very powerful, yet extremely cost-effective shared storage solution, that, unlike other shared storage solutions, can also accommodate Digital Asset Management, Transcoding, and After Effects and Cinema 4D rendering, right on the central server without additional dedicated hardware.
If you’d like to know more feel free to call me at 949/861-2709 or drop me an email. I’ll be happy to answer all your questions above.

FCP attempts to resize anything to match you sequence settings, unless you use Import and tell it not to.
So, double click on the still in you timeline and in the viewer set the parameters to default, and then size accro0ding to your needs.

[Shane Ross] “The best way is via an IO capture device like aja.com and decklink.com make. Easy Setup for ProRes NTSC.”
Like Shane says, but add Matrox to his list of manufacturers.

It actually seems that Adobe listens to Apple’s editor customers a lot more than Apple listens to Apple’s editor customers.

Apple’s decision to “double down on secrecy” doesn’t appeal to any corporate decision makers except those inside Apple.

February 27, 2014 at 8:34 pm in reply to: CNN is going with Adobe CC & Adobe AnywhereI’ll bet FCP X was a very close 2nd. 🙂 Or, as we like to say in golf, “it was the best of the losers.”

It sounds as if you may have to trash your FCP preferences. If you don’t know how to do that just use the search function at the top of this forum.
