You’re very welcome.
Adobe makes very fine products, and because Encore is now fully integarted with the other products in its line, so its a good choice, especially if Premiere is going to be your editing platform. While not really as powerful as DVD Lab Pro, I’d guess that for 99% of the DVDs you’ll create it will probably more than suffice. Its the ability to customize and script that you will find somewhat lacking in Encore by comparison, but most DVDs are really pretty simple, so you may well get away without a whole lot of scripting anyway.

If you don’t own Disk Warrior yet, this might be the time to run out to get it (just $79 at any MAC vendor). But, if the disk will not mount that may point to a Firewire issue rather than a drive issue. You might want to call Apple on this or at least check online support, which certainly has articles relating to recent Firewire issues.

Search back a few months for a post I made entitled “Roll Your Own” 1.2 Terrabyte SATA. You could install four of the new Maxline Pro 500gb drives for just $320 each to get your 2tb of storage. Check out the Firmtek review on barefeats.com, https://www.barefeats.com/hard58.html. Barefeats say the Firmtek SATA solutions make Firewire 800 obsolete. Your dealer isn’t really up to date if thinks SATA is unreliable.

Excellent Nikki!!! I think you’ve got the idea. If I were you, I’d go to the business school at your college and enlist the help of a professor and his marketing students. Because marketing plans are not easy for most creative people it will certainly help you to have a very right brained team on your side. Biz schools often take on such projects in order to give their students experience in real-world applications of the things they are learning.

If you want to put yourself in a setting with the largest number of video professionals and end users in the country, go to NAB in Las Vegas next month. But that isn’t the answer. There is no magical place where customers are assembled in one place waiting for you, a new business startup to sell them DVD creation services, when anyone with a $500 computer can author DVDs.
In this time of democratized video, $5000 fees per hour episode for HD television programming, and $500 computers, what is it that you do that would make enough entities want to use your services so that you could actually build a business around it? Who are these entities? How do you reach them if they do exist? These are the questions you need to answer even if you do mange to find an entire convention center filled with prospective customers. Do you know the answers? This is marketing. It requires lots of right brain function, not the fun left brain stuff that most of us creatives are addicted to. It is the hard work that will enable you to build your dream, so quit looking for that magical “conference or convention that showcases editing talents and or DVD authoring,” and get to work creating a marketing plan.

I think you will find that indeed it is the anamorphic flag that is creating the problem for you. I’ve never seen the progressive scan toggle switch affect this aspect (no pun intended) of things.

My understanding (which admittedly could be a misinderstanding) is that, from this point forward, all updates from Apple will actually require the UB version, thereby enabling the coders to make just one version. I’m not trying to spread any false rumours, but that is what I belive I heard on the FCP Forum. Please correct me if I’m worng.

Chris,
First, unless your DVD has been made from either a film-based original or a 24-frame video original, turning on progressive scan does not in fact display as progress scan.
Second, when creating a DVD, if you enable the anamorphic flag, the DVD will display 4×3 on a 4×3 TV and 16×9 on a widescreen TV.
Third, keep in mind that the settings on your DVD player, on your TV, and those you set on your DVD can be improperly conflicting with one another.
