Not me, I give my multiple emmy award-winning DaVinci colorist the video just as I found it so he can have maximum latitude.

Here I am to save you ur day again. Do you have Compressor? I hope so… Take that export we did at current settings and use compressor to encode to MPEG-2 and AC3 audio. Then import those into DVDSP.

When you export using current setings it doesn’t have to recompress each frame, which is what happens when you encode, convert, uprez, down rez, etc. Now you’re an expert…

    Aiden,

I’m not familiar with that mixer personally, but having just looked at it on their website it certainly looks like a full featured mixer to me. I have to believe it can mix all of the input channels into the output, otherwise it wouldn’t be called a “mixer.” I think you better study the manual a bit more carefull and look into properly configuring the bus and properly panning the inputs.

In all cases exporting as a quicktime movie using Curent Settings exports the native file format that your editing on the timeline. This preserves exactly what you started with, there is nothing better than that unless you have a specific reason for bumping to another format. A self contained movie is a file that can play on other machines, while a reference movie has to reference the files on your computer, so if you take it off your computer, or delete the files in your project, you’re sunk.

All of these are cause for concern in my opinion.

    Aiden,

You’re not going to be able to do it through the voiceover tool to separate channels, only as a mixed track. Do you actually need to record it to the timeline anyway? Why not play the film back on from DVD or VHS and record the commentaries through the mixer using Capture? Then later just add the audio to two channels on your timeline. Will that work?

    Chris,

Well, the job is done now, but, the reason I didn’t use that technique is because I asked here and no one, not a soul, mentioned that as a possible solution. Do me a favor, can you please expound upon that concept a minute and tell me if that would actually do the job with the ultimate goal being that everything on the timeline needs to wind up at 10-bit rez, with the uncompressed stuff video, graphics, etc. staying uncompressed all the way through and the DV stuff uprezed to 10-bit.

On the other hand, wouldn’t you be rather concerned about onlining at any facility still using FCP 4.5???
