    Thanks for the Input Chris/Tom,

What I was really wondering was – is there a way to dump a still straight from what’s being output through the Kona? As in, click a button and get a nice 10bit DPX on your desktop that you can send to a DoP for a grade reference… In the same way you can when capturing through VTR Xchange. Guess not.

Fonts and graphics tend not to hold up too well in software downconversions. If you’re delivering SD you could downconvert the final edit to SD (using frame controls in Compressor for best results) then send it to Motion to finish. Export ProRes then create your mpeg2 from Compressor.

That would make sure all of your text looks pristine from a DVD.

I know this post has been dead for a while but I found a bit of a work around. Not sure why it works but it does.

The flashing frames continued on a few other shots after a render out of CS4. I realised that all of the shots that had this problem originally came from Nuke (as Apple Pro Res). If I opened up the original Pro Res from Nuke in QT and exported again as the same size, same codec, then imported that back into AE and rendered the flashing would stop.

I’ve never seen this happen before and it seems pretty specific to this workflow but if anyone else gets this problem I hope this helps someone in the herd.

    Cheers,

    Thanks Bouke,

I did consider going that route and staying 23.976 until the final playout. The speed change won’t be an issue but the run time will be. As it’s for an ad I need to playout at an exact time (with 12 frames of silence and either end). So to make the conformed playout hit 30″ I would need the 23.976 timeline to be…………….. 00:31:07 ….. I think?! I’ll be more then happy to be proved wrong on that, maths has never been my thing.

Does anyone know of any kit that can do a frame-for-frame speed change on an R3D file? The only other option I can think of is transcoding all the rushes to DPX and changing the framerate on that, I’d really like to avoid doing that.

    Cheers,
    Dave
