  • neither SLI nor Crossfire are supported in any NLEs that I know of…

dual GPUs have no performance gain with video editing.

6 core CPU and the fastest clock speed you can get!

I had always imagined this is exactly how I would use 4k footage, but i have not tried it. Interested to see what someone’s experience has been with it

July 27, 2013 at 4:30 am in reply to: DVD rip software for video to be edited in Vegas

yep, this is the hard truth with this one. Even if you are using the disk for fair use you still cannot legally break the encryption and decode the DVD.

That being said, there are plenty of ways to rip DVDs and it is not hard.

if $$$ is an issue drop the GPU and get a consumer GPU.

From my experience vegas just does not use OpenCL or CUDA enough to justify the cost.

that would give you plenty of $$ left to buy SSDs and storage drives and perhaps a capture card or microphones….

btw, my rig in my sig does well, 8 core CPU would be MUCH better but it still does well.

8 cores of CPU with hyper threading…. whether it is a 8 core single CPU or dual socket quad cores…. either way…

many people have moved away from the MAC since the the Mac pro updates have been long in the tooth and the new form factor is not expandable.

like the other post said…. the most cores and fastest CPU you can afford. At this point GPU acceleration is not implemented well and is hit or miss

8 core CPU with Hyperthreading or 2 physical CPUs with 4 cores and hyper threading would be the best way to go

It is a fairly basic tool that almost all editing programs have.

In vegas you do it with Key Framing

you should be able to run 3 monitors off 1 card as well.

my 7970 and 6950 rigs can run 3 or more monitors with active display port adapters.

July 14, 2013 at 2:55 am in reply to: Vegas Pro 12 choppy with new Graphics card

are you saying that the preview window was smooth with your old card and now it is choppy with the new card?

If that is the case, check that your Power Supply is rated higher than the requirement. OEM PC generally use okay PSUs but they are on the smaller side.

Also remove all GPU drivers, restart, download and install new drivers…

the use of a driver cleaner might be needed.

as for working with HD content….. the i7 9XX series might be fast enough to preview the content with no effects, but add effects and your FPS is going to drop.

I have started to use the “Build Dynamic RAM preview” more and more and it works great, makes super smooth video even with tons of effects and overlays…

My rig in my signature cannot render real time 1080p video with overlays, effects and transitions….

Add lots of RAM and use it with the dynamic ram preview function
