i routinely have rendered long projects 90+ minutes. i7 doesnt mean a ton either since there are dual core nad quad core variants, ultra low power i7 and desktop i7 in notebooks.
as for heat it is a non-issue as long as it is not on your lap the whole time, could decrease your ability to have a child 🙂
i bought a dell xps 15 specifically for rendering since it has a true quadcore i7 while being thin and portable.
best of luck, i do find it challenging to work on projects with 3D plugins and titles without real desktop class horsepower

i have a i7-4702HQ in my notebook and i had a 3770k in my desktop and both run normal 1080p 60fps content fine. they both struggle when adding a lot of effects or keyframing, slow motion stuff…
you wont have any problems doing 99% of editing and depending on what you use for titling and such it might make use of your GPU

the 4770 is a good gaming CPU but really it isnt all that powerful for video editing. I was using a 3770 and recently went to a 3930k for the extra 2 cores and I have been temped by one of the Xeon 12 core CPUs….
really multicam editing just requires more CPU power if you want to view the content in decent quality or render it in less than a day

Nothing major changed in my workflow

the CPU is the most relevant information on render times and previewing the video in editing

doesnt seem to be downloading for me…..
if someone has it it would be great to upload it somewhere and share the file..
I was looking for it the other day as well, glad I am not just a terrible googler

just installed the 290x and it is basically the same results in this particular test. All GPU scores are within 1 second of the 290. I havent OCed the 290x yet so we might see some minor gains.
It is possible that with longer content the different would be magnified.

Thanks! I will definitely use this while attempting to grade!

yeah i am showing my ignorance… i know all my stuff should be color graded as well….. just need to put the time in to learn how and why to do it.
good point!

From my experience it really depends on your edits.
This test had GPU accelerated effects in the whole clip, something I generally don’t have.
I might have 1-3 GPU accelerated transitions or effects
I am finishing a wedding video and I have 0 GPU ade pendant clips.
I notice no difference in render times or timeline playback with GPU enabled/disabled.
This is why I moved from my 3770 to a 3930 for 6 cores, which makes a huge difference (about 30% faster on renders)
Someone else can chime in, but bottom line is the more 3rd party plugins you use with GPU effects the most valuable a GPU is
