Got it! Somehow during installation something odd happened. AE found it’s card settings switched to a weird Ntsc setting, Combustion got another weird Hd setting. Motion was the only app with correct settings. After putting back the right settings for each app I returned to Fcp which suddenly worked. The card probably got confused between Pal settings for projects and Ntsc or Hd settings for the card I guess. Very odd since the apps weren’t running. The only thing I have to do manually is switch to Firewire dv for capture and back to Blackmagic for playback/editing. Or win the lottery and buy a fat dv deck with a sdi i/o. Anyway, time to catch some sleep. Thanks eveyone.

Sorry Jeremy, no result. Let me explain what my setup looks like. No decks attached to the decklink card, only the broadcast monitor. I have a little dv camera which of course uses FireWire for capture. I’ve tried both capturing little test clips from the camera and also QT clips from the local HD. Whatever setting I chose for playing the clips, the broadcast monitor goes to black or just displays an empty dektop. If my setup works fine for AE/Combustion/Motion why won’t it work for FCP? Sorry, I’m very green here and the manual doesn’t discuss hardware setup options. BTW: I reside in Pal country.

Thanx Aharon. On a stretch of around 20 seconds I’ve only got only 5 kf’s for tilting up/down so that should be pretty modest. The other keyframes for zoom (camera itself) are only four. At the points involved the kf’s are aligned. I also zoomed in on the motionpath on the tilt-null but it’s very difficult to spot a glitch there since the path is straight vertical. Anyway, The motion is slightly smoother now and I hope I can get away with it.

Thanx again Aharon. ‘Good’ to hear to hear AE sometimes messes up curves. I was doubting myself. I’m not at the machine right now but I’ll try 33,33%. I did try 50% and 0% which sounded logic to me. For my understanding what’s the magic about 33,33%?

Sorry Chris, I wasn’t joking about my camera skills. What I want to do is fill the canvas completly with the image, so no floating in 3d space as an object. Also, I don’t need depth of field. I was just puzzeled by way to solve this one. In the meantime I’m busy setting this one up in a D1 PAL comp. As for orientation -as in turning your head left or right- (just trying to get the jargon right), do I use the camera’s POI or a 3D null? A null makes more sense I guess. And do I set the layer’s orientation off or towards camera?

    Thanx again, s t o l i

Thanx Chris for your quick response! I’m in a tight schedule here. A few questions though.

    1. From your story I understand that I end up with a chain of nulls parented to the camera?
    2. Basically I have 1 wide image (roughly 7600 x 2400 the 2 images attached to eachother) but a D1 PAL project. Do I put all this in a precomp and put that one in the PAL master comp?

As alternative I was trying in a D1 PAL comp moving the image and have the camera only to animate zoom and POI. From your story I understand this is a dead end. I’ll qiuckly try to set up your story and get back with soon with more questions 😉

    Thanx, s t o l i

Thanx Naveen. I have a big render this afternoon. I’ll see what happens.

Maybe it’s a bug in 6.5.1. I did a restart and the rendering went fine. Are there people with similar experiences?

So 6.5.1. could be slower? Are there other issues known to 6.5.1? I just saw this thread after posting mine (render error) above.

Aharon, I think I’ve got it. I rendered the pan with fields, reimported that clip and set the field interpretation to off. The preview of this is pretty smooth.
