Maybe it’s a bug in 6.5.1. I did a restart and the rendering went fine. Are there people with similar experiences?

I have a post down the forum about rendering failure’s I was encountering (I think you had posted to it).

Here’s the fix (that I found in the Cow Forum archives):

    Start AE.
    Open your project.
Hold down the shift key, and then go to Edit>Preferences>General (hold the key the entire time, until the dialog box comes up).
Click the drop-down, and at the bottom you will see “Secret”.
Go to Secret and select the top check box. Enter “5” for the number of frames below the box.

Apparently, this will purge the cache every five frames, thus keeping AE’s use of RAM low and allowing it deal with large compositions.

I had render failure after render failure on some pretty big comps involving 3D motion and whatnot. Once I did this, no problems (knock on wood).

Why this is secret is beyond me. Seems like an extremely important and useful feature that Adobe would want to tout.

Thanx Naveen. I have a big render this afternoon. I’ll see what happens.

this worked for me too… is there anything wrong with just leaving the machine at this “secret” preference setting… the software I meant.

    Sincerely,
    Paul
