For now most of the apps wil run on the new MacBooks under an emulator called Rosetta. Think of it as running an OS9 app in Classic mode under X.4. Rosetta isn’t that fast so the speedbump from the new machines gets lost great deal by running Rosetta. That’s why for instance Photshop is not recommended and isn’t used in any benchmarks. This will be for as long as all major apps have rewritten their code native to the new OS and chipset. AE 6.5 and 6.5.1 are most likely not to be rewritten since the release of AE7 is near so no benefit of the new chipset there. Besides this there are a few common ‘laws’ to help you with choices like this:

If you need hard/software NOW buy NOW
Don’t buy anything dot zero (sw)
Don’t buy anything Rev A (hw)

Thanx Derrick. Amazon wasn’t that informative. Does it work with 9.5 or do I have to wait for a revised reprint? I ‘ve no knowledge about the improvements in this app to judge the book.

Thanx Chris. I saw that this book had a good review here on the Cow but couldn’t figure out if it was also good for my needs.

Likewise. Learned a lot again this year on this list. Also a shout to Ron and Kathlyn. Are they really Dutch 😉

Now, as in 6.5.1? Parallel processing? As far as I know 6.5.1 only uses 1 processor.

Not inpatient for AE 7 but just curious: are there any signs that AE 7 will support multi processors and more Ram?

Thanx Mylenium, I knew it could never be accurate but a rough estimate would be nice. I was asked to give a quote and a rough indication on size of a simple animation, around 5,5 mins @ 640×480 downloadable from a website. I advised to a least make it a stream but since the huge size a swf would be nice. I’m still waiting for the clients details so I can’t tell you more.
