I hope the subscription only model does not happen.

The idea of FCPX going the way of the Adobe model sends chills up my spine. I love FCPX but the news of a subscription based model does not sit well. Resolve has a chance to get a nice chunk of the market share. Already planning to migrate to Linux as a result. Apple is going to run off some of the user base. Been nice knowing Apple but time to reconsider my options. Definitely going to jump to Resolve very soon. Exits debate stage.

For smaller projects like blogs or event videography Final Cut Pro X is fine. However, multicam clips can be an issue. ???? Everything else I plan to use Resolve for. Apple needs to address consolidation and batch syncing — two areas were Resolve is great at. ???? Oh, don’t get me started on keyframing! ????

There was a discussion about this in a Facebook photography group just last week. I have no idea what Adobe was thinking with this price test scenario. The fact is the less expensive plan is still available, at least for now. Should they decide to increase the price and end the lower price plan subscribers will take notice. Will there be a mass of people jumping ship? Anything is possible. There are alternatives out there and that can cut into the Adobe revenue stream. We all know a price increase was coming but doubling the rent is not going to make many subscribers happy. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

There are some garbage questions in the FCPX groups on FB from time to time. I had to intervene as moderator at times due to some trolls. One thing is that some people post the same question across multiple groups looking for an answer. The response time can be fast but the quality of answers are not always great.
The problem is some members get defensive and attack the moderators.
One example: “I won’t join any more groups because most of the people on these groups are unprofessional with unsympathetic, lame answers. [Name redacted] doesn’t listen well.”
We had one member even complain about censorship and whine about being put into moderation because his posts needed approval. That policy applies to everyone to cut down on spam. He left before he got banned.
No matter what forum you join, regardless of the website there will be slow times and attention seeking trolls. My two cents. Carry on and be cool.

Looks that way. Facebook has been slow other than member requests. There has been no Apple news at NAB and outside of Resolve 16 there has not been much to discuss on the NLE debate front. Yes, the word debate was used. ???? In all honesty, I have no idea why there is no traffic in here. Hopefully it will pickup soon.

Our fears of Fusion standalone going the way of Apple Shake has been addressed. The free version is no more. It appears as if BMD is trying to get more Resolve users by ending the free (lite) version of Fusion standalone. This is a very bold business decision move. The free version of Resolve lives on but will it be the next to go? How will the Adobe market share be affected? Tim, your thoughts?

Given that a new version was released it looks like standalone is safe for now.

I respectfully disagree. This version will be of use to anyone needing to do a higher compositing workflow without having to use Nuke or After Effects when Motion is not the right tool for the job. Motion is really designed to be an extension of Final Cut Pro X though it can do other tasks for something simple to intermediate in some situations. The question now is whether or not Adobe will lose some market share. My prediction is that a few will migrate to the BMD side of the pond. Will it be significant? It is a wait and see game.
