For me:

Easy to use
Magnetic timeline, no need to bother with patching or assigning tracks
You can choose what to output with the range tool and roles
EX: Output self contained movie with titles in English or Spanish
Great organizing
Ability to build custom effects, generators, transitions and title stuff in Motion
Better media management then old school FCP

In addition to some of the sites listed earlier you may want to check out Ripple Training, Steve Martin (not the actor) and Mark Spencer, a contributer on here in the Motion forum, have really great material. It is a one time purchase not a subscription based model. I also ordered Resolve training.

As others have pointed out there is a bit of a learning process but really is not that difficult.
My only beef is no native support for the Cinema DNG format. Hoping that will change in the next version.

I am interested in the Saphire Efeccts Builder for adding effects to clips but at this point it is not supported in Final Cut Pro X which is a bit disappointing. I would definitely use it in Resolve, so much better then digging through effects. I know this is not exactly motion graphics work but thought it somewhat relevant.

Motion is a good alternative for basic to intermediate work. Parameter behaviors are a nice alternative to After Effects expressions but not as powerful. Groups are better then pre-comping though the other has benefits.

The realtime performance is whats differentiates the two the most. Then again there are features that matter. One is better then the other. Why not learn as many as you can? Just my simple minded thoughts.

I love working with X but there are a few things that would be nice. For starters sync indicators would be useful. As it stands now they don’t exist which means if you detach your audio and it goes out of sync it is a guessing game. I never known of any reason to detach audio but I am sure one exists.

Exporting individual clips from the timeline would be nice. Just select the range tool and export whatever you like. Of course there is the XML to Resolve or Clip Exporter to do handle that line of work.

One last item would be to add a video transition without adding an audio transition in the mix. Yes, expand audio and video does the trick just extra clicks. My two cents.

Perhaps they should have a support plan. You buy the product then have a yearly support plan billed monthly or annually. The support would include fixing bugs and adding features.
Once you decide to exit you keep the version but can no longer upgrade until you join back in. The other option is to pay for the new version. I would rather pay extra money to have issues resolved (pardon the pun) then have a free update schedule with the focus on new features instead of fixing bugs under the hood. I thought about jumping to other color correction tools but those are expensive.

My guess is inventory. Other reasons for these markdowns is to introduce new products and to gain a larger customer base. I get all sorts of messages regarding new products and special sales. I honestly think it is part inventory, the time of year, new product introductions and gaining new customers. My guess it will be when the new OS is introduced is when FCP will get an update. This is a just a guess, nothing more. Then again we could see that new update next week.

Tetris is my favorite video game unless tracks are involved.
