Thanks for this great answer. I just need to coordinate with the sound recordist to make sure his settings are correct for what we need to do in post. And it wouldn’t hurt to test it before the shoot date.

February 29, 2008 at 9:49 pm in reply to: Sync audio to DVCPRO HD film transfer 720p24Speed changing in FCP seems messy. Doesn’t that make the sound timecode inaccurate for EDLs and OMFs? How about this:
1. record the audio at 48.048 kHz in the field.
2. use Cinema Tools to “conform” the BWF files to 48.0 kHz.
3. Then import those clips into FCP and sync in FCPIs that workflow possible? I don’t know if Cinema Tools lets you alter audio-only clips. And I don’t know what “conforming” does to the metadata of the BWF file. But, in theory, it sounds possible to me. Anyone know about doing this in real life?

February 29, 2008 at 4:14 pm in reply to: Sync audio to DVCPRO HD film transfer 720p24Thanks, Arnie. But I’d like to be cutting with the BWF files instead of the sound on the HD tapes. That way I can make OMF’s using the original files. Is there a way to slow down the BWF files in FCP before I sync them?

November 29, 2007 at 4:24 am in reply to: Powerbook G4 and Media Composer Software versionDid you ever get this to work on a Powerbook G4? I have the opportunity to get MC software 2.7 for a great deal. But I only have a Powerbook G4 for now (17-inch, 1.33 GHz, 2 GB RAM). did you find anyone running the MC v. 2.7 on a Powerbook successfully, even though a 1.33 GHz is not officially supported by Avid?
My system:
PowerBook G4 17″

2 GB RAM
Mac OS X 10.4.10

Sorry for the typo on the last post. I meant 0.1% instead of 0.01%.
I have to slow down the sound by 0.1% to sync to the film that was slowed down the same amount when transferred to DVCAM.
Again, any suggestions would be helpful. Soundtrack Pro version 1.1? Version 2? Thanks.

OK. Great, so I can have it dubbed to DVCAM.
Next, what’s the best way to pulldown the speed of the sound clips without changing the sample rate. I have to pulldown the sound to .01% of the recorded speed in order to sync to the film playing back at 23.98 fps. Any suggestions on the software that does this? Can Soundtrack Pro v. 1.1 do that?

Thanks. I found this one and installed it but it didn’t help. I’d like to try the machine template for the panasonic AG-DV2500. Know where I can find that one?

The BR-DV3000U has RS-422 control and I am using it. I don’t have the machine template for the AG-DV2500, but I think it’s a good idea to try that, since the AG-DV2500 is on the avid-approved device list, and the BR-DV3000U is not.
My system:
Avid Media Composer v. 10.6.0 (Meridien)
Power Mac G4, 933 MHz
Mac OS 9.2.2
1 GB RAM
ATTO UL3D SCSI card

It cues up at the pre-roll point and then says “can’t find coincident point on tape, or this tape is write-protected.”
