I am trying to use the BR-DV3000U VTR with my system. Is anyone having luck using this deck, even though it’s not on the supported devices list?

Batch digitize works fine. But when I try to make a digital cut, it cues the tape and then waits for a few seconds before this error pops up:

“Could not locate coincidence point on tape, or the tape could be write protected.”

I am using the Generic-Edit-Deck-NTSC template.

What about the Panasonic AG-DV2500 deck? From the outside, it looks exactly like the BR-DV3000U. But the DV2500 is on the supported devices list. Is there something in the guts of the DV2500 that makes it more compatible with my system than the DV3000U?

    My system:

Avid Media Composer v. 10.6.0 (Meridien)
    Power Mac G4, 933 MHz
    Mac OS 9.2.2
    1 GB RAM
    ATTO UL3D SCSI card
    Avid rS MediaDrives

I think it is all but identical to the AG-DV2500, which I own. I, too, have problems with Digital Cut on this deck, especially witht he latest versions of Avid. Tell me, does the DV3000U have RS-422 connections? Are you using it? It makes a world of difference with the 2500. Indeed, since the decks are all but identical, you should try the AG-DV2500 template and let us know if that works for you.

The BR-DV3000U has RS-422 control and I am using it. I don’t have the machine template for the AG-DV2500, but I think it’s a good idea to try that, since the AG-DV2500 is on the avid-approved device list, and the BR-DV3000U is not.

Thanks. I found this one and installed it but it didn’t help. I’d like to try the machine template for the panasonic AG-DV2500. Know where I can find that one?

No, I looked for it as well, and cannot find it on the Knowledgebase. I am on Xpress Pro PC, so I don’t think mine would help you. Ask over at the Avid user forums.
