March 10, 2008 at 7:48 pm in reply to: building 3d comp of paths layers without their effect being on?thank you very much for the clarification…what you say makes perfect sense… I can only predict that the slowness is due to all my precomps….
I have a ‘forest’ of shapes… every shape is a PRECOMP..and every precomp has an average of 3-4 layers that contain shapes, which then have 3d stroke and glow applied to them…
all these precomps (about 20 of them) are added into a final composition… So, with relevance to what you said, do you believe it will all work quicker if i simply pull all the layers into one comp instead of precomping every single one?
Im going to finalize some of them and simple pre render them, or commit to disk with girdiron..
Applying a simple stroke has cut the waiting time by about half… so that’s a start i suppose…its just that it takes a while to just turn all these layers from 3d stroke to a normal stroke 😉
thanks again!
thanx for the help.

March 10, 2008 at 5:12 pm in reply to: building 3d comp of paths layers without their effect being on?by simple stroke, do you just mean GENERATE–>STROKE effect?
I’ve done that now, which took about 20 minutes of going into every single comp and turning layer effects off and adding the stroke…and even now when i push up and down the timeline i cant just scroll and see the effect take place instantly like it should with simple things like that…
its quicker, but still takes far longer than it should, and it took 20 minutes just to set up all the layers to have a stroke…
must be a simpler way to view paths without having to apply an effect on

March 10, 2008 at 3:15 pm in reply to: building 3d comp of paths layers without their effect being on?i just tried adding an adjustment layer and turning off the comp’s layer effects… NO use… the effect doesnt apply to any of the comps because all they are, are comps with layers that contain paths…
i dont understand why AE cant just preview a simple stroke quickly..im running a strong machine with gridiron nucleo pro… this is very annoying indeed!

the comp view is already on third, and on quarter i cant even tell if the paths are aligned properly so that’s not an option. The camera has no depth of field. The adjustment layer ill try, but i dont see how that’ll be different to having the effect on right now and draggin the layers… i need to have them lined up perfectly as these are all strokes, this project is driving me insane, why on earth would AE need so much time to load a comp with vector paths that have glow and 3d stroke on them… there’s no animation/movemnet/music/depth of field… this doesnt make ANY sense.

March 6, 2008 at 10:24 pm in reply to: animated vector paint is jumpy when playback speed is reduced…fair play, but i’ve tried to do what i need to do with stroke and write-on, and it doesnt allow too many things. such as creating a write-on effect simultenously from two different points to build something like a flower for example.
I know i can split the layer but i have a lot of art made only of strokes, but many of them, which arent connected..so selecting paths wouldnt work at all… im only left with vector paint or creatings masks that reveal the shapes..

March 6, 2008 at 7:28 pm in reply to: animated vector paint is jumpy when playback speed is reduced…sorry for not being clear. It isnt possible as far as i know to keyframe animated vector pain effect. You simply draw what you want, and the animation is created according to the speed and position of the mouse pointer…
so first i drew the vector pain with the mouse, while its on ANIMATE STROKE. I then set it to REVEAL LAYER/path and then i tweaked it with the playback speed option in the vector pain effect pallette.
does that clarify it a bit?

I dont have access to portable greenscreen or equpiment… If i did find someone, wont things like the floor affect it all?? i want to key her out completely, not just from the knees up…
thanks

thank you!!!
any ideas maybe about my greenscreen issues? the room is too small to film the girl walking from left to right for 2 minutes…can get about 10 seconds of wlalkign at the most… how would i connect loads of clips like that?
thanx for the help.

March 2, 2008 at 12:55 pm in reply to: how to make objects spread out in 3D space look connected with moving cam?yes that makes sense, sorry i think im just giving myself a headache for no reason…
the reason why i initially wanted to make it in 3d space is because its a stretched out composition. the camera will shift from left to right as the animation goes along… but i was planning on videotaping my girlfriend in a greenscreen and then add her to the composition to make it look like she’s walking in between the objects… that’s why i wanted the 3d space, to give it some depth as she walks through this ‘forest’…
that’s actually my next issue. how to video tape her in a small room but make it look like she continueously walking from left to right without any jumps and any loops… BLA
