Even the newest fasted systems could have trouble playing 7d footage. Especially once you add transitions and other effects. The new Premiere CS5 with its new mercury engine claims realtime playback and Edius also claims realtime playback. If you want to stay with Vegas than you can transcode or try DVFilm EPIC, which enables realtime playback without transcoding even with a laptop.

For smooth playback you have a couple of options. You can transcode your clips using software like cineform neoscene or you can use DVFilm EPIC which will give you real time playback without transcoding.

Another option is not to transcode but rather use DVFilm EPIC with your t1i files to edit in Vegas. You get realtime editing without transcoding.

For future reference, whenever you have all the components it is easy to recreate the p2 structure. The contents folder contains 6 sub-folders, VIDEO, AUDIO, PROXY, ICON, VOICE, CLIP.

    Video is for the mxf.
Audio if for your 4 audio tracks
    Clip is for the xml
    Icon if for the bmp
Voice and Proxy are usually empty and are not needed to open in an NLE.
