May 23, 2011 at 2:46 am in reply to: Please suggest capture and project settings to retain closed-caption dataExcellent informative thread here. Curious if any of this info has changed with time since the last post.
I am about to archive a large number of Beta SP NTSC programs containing Closed Captioning using an AJA IO/ OctoMacPro / PCP 6.0.6.
1) What capture settings would best suit this type of project and future proof the files for use in web, DVD and mobile devices?
2) future editing of these SD programs in FCP/upres via Kona 3 for HD broadcast retaining the closed captioning information?
3) Any thoughts on the upcoming FCPX, will it handle HD Closed Captioning without the need for CPC software?

No external sync generator just running off of the Kona.
Frustrating, this worked last year same vers of final cut and Leopard, nothing has been upgraded.
Curious why I see the signal when the tape is ejected but not during edit to tape.
Curious that the sound is being recorded during edit to tape.
Where do I find “ref for sync” on the deck?Dave

Thx Doug,
I am running free run from the Kona.
Deck was and is set to 59.94.
I am seeing signal passing while tape ejected. (display screen on deck)
I am monitoring on the BT-LH2600W, picture is great, good upres Kona!I’m hearing the sound on the deck when I do edit to tape but the picture is just Bars… Hmmm.
Thx for your patience Doug, is there anything that obviously needs checking if I am only getting bars on the deck?

August 29, 2008 at 10:10 pm in reply to: Connect Kona 3 to HDW 1800 – 720 24p to 1080 60iWow I’m shocked at how easy this was to do.
I am looking at a 720 24p Prores sequence and holding a 1080 60i master in my hand and I didn’t even need a sync generator to pull it off, sweet!Thx to Rudy over at AJA for the tips…
No documentation however one recommendation: Menu 309 on the VTR set it to
AUTO2.720p24 is displayed as 720p59.94.
To cross-convert on capture:
1) Go to AJA control panel -> format and set secondary to 720p59.94.
2) Setup FCP with a AJA Kona 1080i29.97 easy setup. To cross-convert on playback:
1) Setup FCP with a AJA Kona 720p23.98 easy setup.
2) Set the video playback to AJA Kona 720p59.94.
3) Go to AJA control panel and set secondary to 1080i29.97.
4) Go to AJA control panel -> analog or digital out and set to secondary.Let me know if you have more questions.
Thank you

“Your HDCAM deck and Kona must be referenced at 1080i59.94”
how do you do this?
