Just want to tag this thread as I want to do almost exactly this myself (no Nitris)

Understood, thanks guys – just came across a 1.5 at a great price, so was tempted. But it is quite possible I’ll end up with BMD camera rushes, so if even they could be an issue it’s not worth the risk.
I assume though that the difference between the various 3gb cards is pretty marginal though?

As per my post, it’s all 1080 for now. Above HD does the smaller memory card not work, or just not render as quickly?

I can only speak regarding support for UltraScope, which I was struggling to run due to Windows PCI power issues – they were very quick to reply and got to the bottom of the problem in no time at all. They were also kind enough to send me a copy of their draft Avid roundtrip document.
YMMV of course, but my first experience with them was extremely positive.

The golden rule – never order add-ons from Apple! RAM and hard drives are terrible value if you order them as part of a computer purchase. I think most people know this now, but in case not, it’s worth saying again…….

It’s really easy, trust me. If they put it in the manual, and if doing it doesn’t void the warranty, it is by definition easy – these are Apple users we’re talking about remember 😉

So long as you’re not a major butter-fingers, swapping out the RAM and SSD on your laptop is a doddle. Just watch where those little screws go when they fall off your desk…..

Inevitably it’s not exactly smokin’…. that Resolve is willing and able to use the MBP video card is brilliant, but it’s not going to win any punching contests with a Cubix-equipped system, or realistically even a Mac Pro with one CUDA card. But it does work, reliably enough, so long as you don’t need realtime playback on anything but the simplest of grades.

Just to say that I am using the MBP / Thunderbolt display / UltraStudio 3D / JVC Broadcast monitor setup with Resolve (and Avid for that matter) and it works very well.
It’s a niggle not to be able to use my old 30″ NEC monitor for the GUI, but the Apple Display is fine really, and I also highly recommend the Promise Pegasus RAID units – super fast and ultra reliable.
One thing to watch for with Thunderbolt which doesn’t seem widely known – the close presence of a mobile phone to a TB lead can lead to disconnects. Once I’d pinned down that issue the system has worked superbly.
