And, for a sense of balance, a vote for the Avid Artist Color.

That said, the Element looks great, but the price seems to be double that of the Avid (Euphonix) surface.

Yes, it’s a real shame – since TB is a development of PCI data format anyway it would make perfect sense….but Apple in their wisdom no-likey, so we don’t get to play.

Like you I’ve found a TB-based MBP solution works, but slowly so I’m looking at PC options. I’m not sure we can count on there ever being another Mac Pro, sad as that is.

I don’t think it’s about Lite / Full versions – it’s about basic config issues vs workflow and other questions. I do agree that separating things in that manner could be an improvement, but then again, would the people who could actually answer the newbie questions ever feel inclined to visit that forum……

    Here’s where I read it – from Magma’s site in fact…..

    External Graphics

There is an interoperability issue with MacOS using graphics (GPU) cards externally through Thunderbolt. Unfortunately, external graphics solutions for MacOS X do not work and we do not expect a resolution from Apple in the short term.

    No, bad idea.

From all I’ve read, Apple have effectively knobbled the use of off board gfx cards via Thunderbolt.

This may change in the future of course, but then again it may not. I’m sorry I can’t find the source info, but I looked into this too and was realised that at least for now, this was a distinct non-starter

For some reason I can’t find any pricing info on these panels (especially not for UK) – I’m assuming they’re not cheap (though cheaper than full DaVinci panels)
