I am wondering why you are using FCP for your shot selection/in & out points? The Sony Clip Browser does all that and more, without having to go the FCP step. With the clip browser, you can also back up your files to whatever storage you choose with each clip checked after transfer to ensure data protection. I’m not sure how you back up your files, but the Clip Browser gives you that extra level of protection as opposed to drag & drop the BPAV files.

I know that the above was off topic, but please let me know how you are transferring the files to BD.

I too have to present in 4:3 SD from time to time (yuk) & integrate with 4:3 material as well (yuk again). I am spoilt and I’m sorry to brag, but I have the AJA FS1, which amongst a host of jobs it does, is convert SD to HD. Very cool. If you have lots of SD to integrate with HD, the AJA FS1 should be top of your equipment investment list.

In addition, if you have a project that is exclusively HD and you have to provide your client with 4:3 SD, and your client requires the final edit on tape, then let M100 down convert & centre cut the program to suit. I had this situation just a few weeks ago. Worked a treat.

By the way, I too convert to ProRez 422HQ, and yes, the transcoding doe take its time, doesn’t it.

You do not mention what camera you are using, but my EX3 will give you 4:3 SD from the composite & S-Video outputs, but you have to play the material in real time of course.

it is best practice to transfer any ex recorded clips directly from your sxs cards via clip browser to the drive(s) of choice. within clip browser, you need to ensure that crc is checked on and i also transfer the clips with data protection checked on.

the clip browser will place the bpav folder in another folder that is dated. once complete, i change the dated folder’s name for my job name.

this is the recommended way in which to move the bpav folder and contents as safely as possible. yes, i spend the time moving the files to at least 2 hard drives. clip browser allows you to do this transfer to one destinaton at a time.

if you have your clips on the sxs card still, try to transfer it to the destination disk via clip browser. if that does not work, you may have a hdd problem.

A long time ago in a distant M100 version, corrupt video media was presented as a dark icon. If I was having trouble with a particular clip over again just like you are/were having, I would check the media on the drive and usually find that one of the media icons was a different colour to the dozens of others.

I then trashed it and in those days, redigitised and continued on my merry way. Today, you cannot spot corrupt media as the icons are all the same.

Usually if I am having such trouble with one particular clip (sometimes more but most unusual), I trash it and re-acquire it. Thankfully it does not happen terribly often, but it still does happen, just like in your case.

So although it is most probably not a V13 issue, by now you have discovered that it was probably a corrupt clip. From that point of view, I have had many corrupt clips in the past over many generations of M100.

I trust that if it was indeed a corrupt clip, you have sorted it by now. Of course, you may have a corrupt timeline or even project file, but 1 step at a time.

I use Clip Browser 2 for all of my backup transfers. You need to set CB2’s preferences to enable CRC and to direct the files to a particular drive. Yes, it is a slow process as each clip at a time is transferred, but you can see the status at all times.

If you wish to copy all of the files across, just select the copy all (or whatever it is called) and the process starts straight away.

I transferred about 28Gb yesterday and it took maybe 1/2 hr to 40 mins, but all was verified. To be safe, I do this TWICE to 2 drives.

The CB software does create a folder that contains a long set of numbers (never sat down to work out what the numbers mean) but I just rename the folder, check the contents quickly and start again.

For safety, use clip browser 2 as Sony states.

I am using the (SD) BNC monitor output from my EX3 for my 8mm telecine transfers. I have the output set to 4×3 centre cut. It worked first time and has worked every time since and I have transferred lots of films to DVD since I took delivery of my camera some weeks ago. No special settings other than centre cut.
