Seriously and back on track, the DS20 is a 20lbs/9kgs capacity head for obtaining unaided camera balance. The camera without lens is 4lb 2oz or 1.87kgs & lens with hood is 3.4lbs or 1.53kgs.
Add the weight of the BP-U60 of 15oz or 350g.
This totals 3.75kgs or 8.25lbs. Add a little more for the tripod base plate, SXS cards, ECM-673 mic & Rycote Softie. Maybe half weight/capacity ratio. To me that seems to be a nice ratio, which allows for other bits & pieces to be added without too much compromise. Exciting items such as Convergent design’s lightweight super duper nanoFlash, a Vocas MB350 Mattebox, filters, rails, radio mic receiver & even DVTEC’s DVMultiRigProHD shoulder rig & V-Lock battery!!!! Hey, let’s even add a nice little on camera light for added Wowness!!! Cover all of this up with a (see through) rain cover & presto, you have a…..Ummmm, well you have some nice stuff anyway!!!
Sure, all this may tip the scales just a little but I have seen a XDCAM 330 on a DS20 operate in a reasonable manner many times.
I think it should be OK, even in the basic configuration. I have a CF SoloDV/DS10 for my HVR-V1P camera and it is so easy & quick to setup the tripod & get the camera on quickly.
By the way, the list above is a list of items I will have within the next few months. I’m very excited!!!!
Don’t know what to do with it but I’m still excited.Best wishes

I use the AJA FS1 into my M100

I have been using Canopus ADVC-100 for many years capturing into FCP. However, I find it best to use a TBC for all of my analogue video sources as well.

Which lends itself to recording onto the upcoming Convergent Design nanoFlash MPEG422 recording unit, using the HDSDI output for 422 vision & uncompressed audio onto CF cards.
I’m looking to buy the EX3. Had a ‘play’ with it yesterday. Bolted the new XS13x Fujinon lens to it. Bit front heavy but I’m looking at the XS17x lens which is a little shorter and lighter and maybe the DV Multirig unit.
Will be a great system.

Hi Matthew,
The lens has been an upcoming option for the EX3 for many months. It is mentioned in the current EX brochure that has been available for months. It is called XS8X4AS-XB8 and has an EX mount for direct connection to the body like the supplied lens.
Sony Australia ALWAYS shrug their shoulders about anything Sony!!! Just check their current broadcast website. Totally useless, just like their pricing policy compared to most other parts of the world. Good place to rip us off. Try sonybiz.net for the most up to date info. Million times better.
Hope this helps.
I’m looking forward to buying an EX3 shortly.
Best wishes

Hi Michael,
I too use ProRez codec, even though I have a Caldigit HDPro tower that can handle uncompressed HD. Very solid, very stable with my 8 core macpro.

Hi Murray,
My audio sync issues just started with 12.5 – never encountered it before but I will be carrying out more tests to see if it is possible codec related. I never rule anything untested out.
Hope you sort out your issues before long.
Thanks for your input, most appreciated.
Cheers

Hi Floh,
I have been shooting on my Sony V1 HDV camera for the past year in 1080 50i and capturing to the Media 100 in ProRez422 HQ in HDSDI from my 1500 HDV edit recorder. No issues until 12.5.1.
I know what settings I need (not that anything has changed that much in 12.5.1 anyway) and I cannot seem to sync the audio. Easy but frustrating fix in unsyching the clips, moving the audio clips to obtain lip synch, trim the excess and edit away.
Cheers

Thanks Scott,
I will do that early next week as I am not going to be in the office during the weekend.
Thanks for your prompt reply
