I have a Sony HVR-1500 HDV edit recorder that works with the 9 pin control protocol. As Floh correctly pointed out, the time delay between FF/REW/Play can be quite long compared with Betacam recorder. My M100 V12.7.1/1500 recorder will often miss its mark on batch capture and not capture the clip, saying it could not find the timecode, when it is there all the time.

I notice that there is a fair amount of ‘clunking’ in my 1500 when it is being cued up, a function of the cost of the recorder vs a Betacam edit machine.

Please note that this does not happen all the time but it does happen even with the ‘better’ 9 pin protocol connection.

I never use FW so I cannot comment on that, but my point is that you may not fair any better than what your current setup is.

Would it not be a better option to invest (if needed) in some additional external hard drives (so cheap now) and capture in the full quality from the get go. I have been doing this for many years now without issue.

I spent all afternoon installing OS + 12.7.1 + 5.5 + FCP.

Interestingly, pictures seem to be stable however, lip sync is out on a regular basis and on one capture, audio was repeating itself every second (echo) together with white noise.

Have to do more captures.

Oh yes, I was going to do just that! Grab one of my Lacie drives, empty it, and load OS 10.5 on it followed by 12.7.1, FCP & 5.1.1

I am going to see what my supplier comes up with tomorrow (Monday) and follow up that way. It was one of my first thoughts but I had to complete clients’ work. I just need to find 2hrs to do it (and I will just have to!!!). Yes I’ know it’s a priority to rid my computer of this problem. Probably do it on Monday afternoon after I finish with my morning client.

Fault comes up on hardware output (main 50″ Pioneer plasma) AND record window, both showing up EXACTLY the same glitches.

I don’t have a mattebox just yet. However, I am favouring the Vocas MB325. My EX3 is teamed with the Fujinon XS17X5.5BRM lens. A 200 series mattebox would better suit the standard lens.

DVTEC has a VCT-U14 compatible plate to which they have 15mm rods to attach to. Check out their photos on their website. I’m looking to buy a set as well as their DVRigPro-HD.

I took delivery of my EX3 camera today. Didn’t have time to use it as a camera but as a recording deck. HDV’d the tapes to SxS cards and then imported the clips into the M100 project. I think that the capture part of my M100 has the problem as I could not see the picture jump/breakup problems I have encountered the past 2 days. Maybe it’s a hardware issue. But then again…..

A quick look after M100 imported the SxS clips showed no signs of breakup. It’s a long way round BUT now that I have my EX3, I will be using it anyway. Still, must get the M100 fixed of course.

At least I can breath for now.

Hi Floh,

No luck with 12.7.1 + Kona upgrades. Still not working. Pic breakup, audio issues, the works.

Looks like it could be a rare hardware problem or some other interfering/conflicting software.

I even created a new SD program from Digi Beta & still have the same pic breakups.

My supplier will follow this up tomorrow.

I suppose anything could have corrupted M100, not necessarily OS or QT upgrade. I’m actually hoping and praying that (for whatever reason) my M100 is corrupted and an uninstall/install will fix the problem.
I imported some AE created movies into the same project. All imported, edited and played back perfectly.

I don’t have my HD partitioned for dual boot. My reference to FCP was with my other computer system. Anyway, I remembered that after 12.7 install, M100 website explains about Kona driver install, and thanks very much for the reminder.

I will be trying the 12.7 upgrade, which from today will be a great asset as I am taking delivery of my PMW-EX3 XDCAM EX camera and XS17x Fujinon lens. Nothing like quick file importation!

This is good. Feedback from EX3 users. I’m looking forward to taking delivery of mine in the next few days. I have an XS17x Fujinon lens waiting to go on the front. Just waiting to sort out how to attach bottom plate for rails & mattebox. I have one strong contender. I can then attach the camera to the VCT-U14 plate.

I had a play with an EX3 & XS13x wide angle at my Sony dealer. Nice. I will be integrating it with the Convergent Design nanoFlash soon.

Then I have to upgrade to 12.7 from 12.5 for easy XDCAM file import, probably to ProRez 422 HQ.
If anyone is doing that now, how is the workflow? Sounds great.
