When you frame through it, are those jumpy looking spots actually jumping backwards? Its hard to tell without having a copy to frame through. If you could upload it to a filehost and tell us the method you used to animate them it would help.

Just throwing this out here, you could always create a tall comp, write your list of credits or whatever your scrolling, and then tell it to go whatever direction you want. That would seem to be easier than getting into expressions.

  • Thats a new one. I tried “converting text to keyframes”, but it didnt work since it outlined the text. Also looked at the roto-brush tool, hoping that i could just write over the text, but it didnt seem to work that way. Ill basically have to make a bezier alphabet and just copy it over one letter at a time. Thanks.

I wouldnt use AE to export to lossy formats. Better to export lossless and use a better h264 encoder like staxrip, meGUI, handbrake, etc..

Thanks for the tip, that saved me a bit of unnecessary learning.

December 12, 2010 at 8:48 am in reply to: Why is premiere unable to utilize my processor?

To follow up with this, im working with 1080 and 720 png sequences. Ive also experienced the same issues with avchd files. My media setup is a two drive raid 0 which is fully capable of handling the bandwidth of the files. The problem remains, it cannot playback more than two layers of footage or one layer with effects without needing to be rendered. Its not defragmentation, and the raid is barely filled. If i were able to at least quickly render i could accept this, but rendering even the most benign edits take 4x realtime, and my processor, a core i7 which is quad core, is barely utilized.

Sufficed to say i am not in the least surprised at this given adobes history of delivering barely functioning products. How a company with so many hundreds of millions of dollars invested in product development can still produce and profit from such poor quality products i will never know, but perhaps when an enterprising company with its head on its shoulders releases a well engineered product and destroys the competition, adobe might open up its books and let us all in on what exactly it takes to have so much and produce so little.

    this is the background

and the foreground is just an .ai logo imported as a single layer. I wanted the logo to pan across the shell as if it were on glass with a light moving slowly behind it.

i looked at a few tutorials and all it does is destroy the top image. In addittion it doesnt warp as i move the top layer over the bottom.

craigs solution would look odd as the smoke wouldnt be hanging in air as i imagine you want it to. This is the sort of thing you would have to do entirely in a 3d fx program, no way to realistically fake it using real smoke.
