Does anyone know why they would have removed transition presets from 2015? And if they have any plan to bring them back? This seems like a pretty basic function for a non-linear editor.

I’m having the opposite problem. I have a 2012 12 core MacPro with 32 GB of RAM. But when I render especially heavy comps (like those including Trapcode Particular) I max out my processor speed. Unfortunately, I have the 2.4MHz version of this machine, and eventually, the renders stall. The same comp renders on a newer mac pro trashcan model with difficulty, but also with success.
So the question is, can my machine be upgraded? Would installing a CUDA card help at all? Or is that only going to help with the 3D engine (which I never use)?
I could add RAM, but if my processor is already maxed out, that seems like it might be a little bit of a waste of time and money.
Here are a couple of screen shots of the activity monitor during my mulit-core render:

Any advice from the hive mind would be much appreciated, as I’ve spent most of my afternoon banging my head against the internet trying to figure it out.
Thanks!

I would like to second Dale’s comment, and thank you, Jethro, for bothering to come back and answer your own question. Especially since this is still the only discussion thread I was able to find that discusses this issue, which was certainly stymying me this evening. So thanks, both of you, almost TWO YEARS after the fact. : )

Hmmm. Just re-read Joseph’s post. Guess it’s only a partial solution. But it’s working for me, anyway.

I think the answer is indeed the “level of detail” field in the Options tab of the render settings. I was struggling with this all night tonight, and as you can see from this image:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/30138486/Level%20of%20Detail%2040.jpg
The image on the left has smooth curves in the letters D and R, but the same image on the right has very noticeable low-resolution curves. I was racking my brain trying to figure out why the region render showed the image smooth, but as soon as I rendered a frame using the render cue, it got blocky.
And then I found this thread and went looking for the “level of detail” in my render settings. I found it in “options.” And when I found it, for some unaccountable reason, it was set to 40%. I must have lowered it at some point when I was looking for some extra render speed, but I have no idea when, or how I didn’t notice I’d left it at that setting.
Anyway, hope that anyone else who is having problems with their MoText objects looking bad when they do a full resolution render (with the Physical Renderer no less) will have their problem solved.
Thanks Adam, for the solution. And Cory for starting the thread.

Thanks very much for taking a look, Brian. But I have the same problem if I move the spline all the way out. In fact, I have the same problem with putting a HyperNURBS on any of the top five pages (i.e. Page 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5). Try it, and hopefully you’ll see what I mean.
Any insight into why the sudden popping is happening? Especially since none of the coordinates seem to be changing? (i.e. Rotation, or spatial coordinates?)
I was even able to get it to freak out by pulling the entire page one with spline wrap out of the nest, moving it up to Y = 500 and then trying to engage the spline wrap. As soon as I move the camera, BAM, it rotates itself magically.
Very curious. And very frustrating. : )

That was it! Thanks so much, Ashish.

Thanks, Adam. That works in terms of getting access to the menu options, but the Startup and Standard layouts are still empty.
Richard, thanks for the suggestion. I think I will go ahead and contact them. (I’m used to dealing with AVID, who are not nearly that friendly.)

Tony,
I am running R13 on a 2012 MacPro 12 core with a 5770, and it works just fine. In fact, today I was going through the preferences and checked the GPU acceleration tab and it said my card was qualified for full GPU acceleration. I’m a new user, but no one else was answering, so if there’s an issue using the card, someone else can feel free to chime in. But I’ve done some pretty heavy renders recently, with no crashes or noticeable problems.

July 3, 2012 at 4:46 pm in reply to: R3D Files and AMA “Unable to Provide Sample” errorThanks again Michael.
The only issue I have with transcoding using Red Cine X upfront is that for documentary work, exposure can change during the shot. So if you’ve got an eight minute-long piece of media, and you make a blanket correction to it and then transcode at the start of a project, you may wind up having your settings exactly wrong for the moment you choose to use in the final sequence.
The beauty of the conforming workflow is that you preserve the flexibility to “rescue” a shot right up to the moment at which you bake the DNxHD 444 for the color grade.
It’s a totally awesome workflow in theory. It’s just the practice part that’s tripping me up. 🙂
Anyway, I appreciate you giving it so much thought.
