Good point. A yearly project I work on uses LiveType. I installed LiveType after I installed FCP 7, so I’d have it available.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

Did Century Optics do the fixing? Or was it Sony, through the firmware update?

I purchased my camera in February of 2008 and I never had my firmware upgraded. Will this Century wide angle still work?

Also, from what the Century site states, with the adapter on, the Sony EX-1 has the equivalent of an 19.7-81mm lens.

So, if I get a 12mm for my Nikon D100. Because of the 1.6 multiplier, that lens is only a 19.2, which will be about the same as using the Century Filter. (except by using the EX-1 I can actually pan the scene. If I shoot it with the Nikon I have to take multiple shots and stitch them together in PhotoShop.)

Does anyone have an opinion on which would yield better quality?

The Sony EX-1 with the Century Filter?
or
The shooting with the Nikon and using the stills in Final Cut?

{this project has no people in the scenes, just empty rooms)

I have a PowerPC around but it sometimes takes quite a bit to get it to boot. I’m glad you posted, since I just received the link from Accom a few minutes before your post. Now I won’t waste time trying to get it to work.

Since I was running out of time I’ve been trying to finish up without using the old footage.

But I will definitely try to boot it up when I have some free time and transfer some of the shots I think I might be using.

Thanks. I copied the “Affinity Video Codec into the QuickTime folder in the Applications/Library folder.

I no longer get the message saying I need to download a codec when I try to open up the clip in Quicktime. But there is no video, just black.

In FCP I get a Red/White ‘Codec could not be opened.’ graphic on in the browser.

This is footage from the Accom Stratosphere, but I read somewhere that the Sphereous Codec was just for OS 9, and that the Affinity Codec would work.

Thanks for responding to the post and sending me the email. Maybe Accom support will email soon, but I’m quickly running out of time.

BAD PSD file!

Someone above said it was a bad PSD file. I got this error when I was working on a graphic sequence. I had just imported a PSD file and got this message.

I had created the file by taking a completed PSD file and cropping it, then re-saving it.

I went back an added a empty layer under the layer that was there. Then hit COMMAND E.

When I saved this file and imported into FCP I had no problems. I think it was because I had cropped the other completed ALPHA PSD. Once I prepared the file the proper way, it worked.

This seems to be the problem I had. Hope this helps other people.

As an update, I had a few extra moments this afternoon and opened an old EX-1 project that I had imported using the Sony XDCAM Transfer tool. I highlighted one of the clips and selected “Batch Capture”. I got a message saying “Volumes Not Available”. But if I opened Log and Transfer and mounted the folder, it would reload the clip.

I then tried it with multiple clips (5 or 6) and got the Color Wheel of Death.
After Force Quiting, trashing preferences and re-opening FCP. I tried it again. One clip and then 6, and they all loaded.

I didn’t realize you could do this. That is the reason I was asking my original question about naming clips in the Clip Browser software and then that info not being available when I used Log & Transfer. If this works, I can import using XCDAM transfer and it would keep the names and notes from my logging sessions on my laptop.

Just thought I would update my original post.

If anyone has other comments on using Log & Transfer over XDCAM Transfer for clip importing, let me know.

Yes, they have the XDCAM Transfer software. But when using that, if you wipe your media drive, then want to work on the project again, there doesn’t seem to be a good way to “reconnect media”. (Or I haven’t found a way).

When using Log & Transfer, you select the clips that need to be reconnected and use “Batch Capture” and the Log and Transfer window will open and the correct clips will reload.

That’s why I’m using the Log & Transfer instead of the XDCAM Transfer.
