So far the best thing that works for me is refreshing the A/V devices under the view menu (alt-f12).

Now for the big question: Will FCP recognize the metadata and use the userclip name in the next version?

The three main controls you have over time lapse are record time, interval time and frame rate. You’ve already tried the frame rate, I gather. I’d recommend experimenting with longer record times in between the intervals of not recording. If you’re only recording a second between intervals it doesn’t give the frame rate much opportunity to achieve the blur you’re looking for. You may have to speed it up in post to get the finished length you desire, however.

    Hope that helps.

It helps to remember that your body doesn’t have to line up with a “third zone” as long as your eyes do. That’s why extreme close-ups with a persons head cutoff still works–because their eyes are in the upper third. If your eyes are dead center of the screen, or way up on the top edge the shot looks “off”. That being said, it is a great rule to break if your looking for quirky.

Make sure your shooting mode is HD resolution. (e.g. 720-60; 720-24pn; 1080i-60)

Anybody know if there is a similar hack for the 2000 or the 500?

We had a similar problem last year with our 200. First it started locking up on the thumbnails and then the buttons didn’t work. Cycling the power helped for a while, but eventually we got a solid green screen on the lcd and nothing else. We had to send it to Panasonic for repair and haven’t had a problem since.

Hope that doesn’t happen to you.

  • I heard back from my dealer. First of all, the receiver is made to operate in several different cameras, so to work in the Panasonic slot it needs a specific adapter plate, which comes with the one I bought. The 5p variant receiver (which is $125 more) doesn’t come with the adapter, so it is also $125 extra. The TA5 to dual Male XLR cable from Lectrosonics is $75. If I order now I can expect it to ship in mid September.

So I can pay $325 on top of what I’ve already paid to have it in September, or pay nothing extra and hope Panasonic delivers on the firmware upgrade 3 months later.

    I’ve decided to wait.

I have run into the same problem when I got footage from somebody else. It was shot on a hvx200 and the p2 cards copied to a hard drive, a server, and then ultimately converted by the shooter to a quicktime. I had this 1 frame grid flash on all versions, but he never saw it on his end. I was able to edit around it, but never found the source or solution to the problem.

Thanks Jan, but we’re almost exclusively Macs here. I ordered an SDHC card reader, so when it comes in I’ll see if that makes a difference and post an update.
