Could you define “all messed up”? I’m guessing you forgot to check “invert existing alpha” when you imported the files. Otherwise, you may have interpreted pixel/aspect ratio incorrectly. PNGs are a darling to work with in Avid. 🙂

Your mileage may vary with Encore 2, but my experiences haven’t been overly positive when using it with the Avid/Sorenson combination. Previously (1.5), I’d export a mixdown QT ref, transcode with Sorenson, and import into Encore. This work famously for a long while. Once I upgrade to Encore 2, I started getting spurious “bitrate too high” errors from my Sorenson transcodes. Additionally, transcoding directly in Encore produces fielding issues. I’m a minute from downgrading to 1.5.

Just a confirmation for future board crawlers with same issue, 5.7.2 works. I had a strange audio error the first time out, but cycling through the mixer/EQ/suite interface cleared it up. Also, note the Nvidia driver update to 91.85.

Bizarre… the same happened to me. Recording DV25, 2 channels of audio play back from camera. Ch1 didn’t import when I copied audio and video files into MXF folder.

Grinner I think he’s referring to zooming the timeline. What you’re referring to is track height, which can be accomplished by selecting the tracks and control-K to make taller, control-L to make shorter.

I use Xpress Pro at home and Adrenaline at work. I like Xpress’s timeline expansion as well. You can map the keys by using the map menu to button feature in the keyboard prefs.

384KHz? Are you sure? That’s twice HD audio bitrate! If you can’t reencode the original movie I suggest extracting the audio track using QuickTime Pro. That way you can export it as something sensible. To answer your first question Avid is fine with either wav or aiff. I default to aiff.

The problem is you’re trying to compress already compressed clips. (Hopefully, you’re not emailing uncompressed video! :-D, just kidding). I would try Stuffit, particularly Stuffit X compressor. Beyond that RAR may be helpful. The potential problem is that you will have to educate your end users a little bit on what tools to use to uncompress.
