1-Have never used Script Sync at all
2-I’ve never had the luxury of “dropping entire sentences” to force a Spanish script to the same length as English. Scripted messages are usually approved somewhere above my paygrade as an editor. It’s best to make sure the client approves all final deletions/additions to accommodate the Spanish translation.
3-Spanish speaking editors would be great. But again, with so many dialects and so many target audiences, you’re asking for trouble if you r client isn’t part of the overall Spanish vetting process.
4-Beyond that, cut the English version first. Get all graphics approved before you do the Spanish translation. Also get the B-Roll approved if possible. That way you can color correct once, and copy the tracks to the Spanish version and adjust lengths there. It’s also very useful to control-click the English version and have it play in its own window for referencing visual edit points against the Spanish.

Exactly what is wrong with the created file? And what was the acquisition format. I’ve exported plenty of one-pass WMVs from Avid and they look pretty good. Also, what are you using the WMV for? Web? Powerpoint?

Many Avid editors (me included) don’t bother with keyframing (rubberbanding) audio changes.If your audio is one solid piece, you can’t tell assign a different volume to certain sections automatically.
Instead, make edits (slice) at the points you need to ramp. Change the volume, and use a dissolve between the clips for your transition. Then if you want, you can save the audio settings from either the high or low volume clips. Select just those clips and apply the settings to them. Read manual or research how to save effects settings to do this.
There are timesaving measures in Avid. Most just require a bit of creative thinking and knowing the app.

Lemme guess… it fades left to right? Render the effect and it will be fine. It’s probably easier to use the ramp tool for simple fade-in/fade-out.

Also, is there a reason for not exporting a reference movie to take into your authoring/encoding program?

You also may want to mix down (1 video, 2 audio) a portion of video and audio surrounding the affected area. It’s a bit of a kludge but it works sometimes.

This was covered fairly extensively in another forum (DMN, I think). It happens here (MCA 2.8.3) as well. Highlights of solution are:
1-Have no sequences and only the one bin you’re importing to open.
2-You can usually only import media one time into a bin.
3-If you have spanned clips, import all clips before importing media.
