It’s hard to tell without looking over your shoulder but the Canvas only shows a limited number of processed pixels. It’s likely just an artifact of your machine’s real time capabilities and the size of the Canvas window. If the coordinates of the clips do not actually shift and the render is okay, I’d have to say you have nothing to worry about. Try changing your effects handling and rendering from whatever you’ve got to Faster (linear).

> I used a template in motion (one of the water ones). looks great in quicktime (animation codec) but when I burn a DVD (using toast) the text looks jagged and interlaced when it’s moving. it’s fine during the still parts. How do i get the text to look smooth on the DVD? THANKS< Why did you use Animation? That's a non-realtime, lossless codec mostly used to move clips from one application to another before rendering or encoding to a release medium like, say, DV. Why did you use Toast? Toast's MPEG2 encoder is pretty solid but so is DVDSP or iDVD. Just curious why Toast was your tool of choice. Where are you viewing the DVD? If you're watching it on your computer, yes, you're going to see interlacing issues unless you created the Motion elements specifically for a progressive display. If you are seeing these problems on a TV set or video monitor, then we've got some other stuff to consider like your MPEG2 settings. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

That’s a fairly obscure reference, evaporate.
Do you mean actually turn into a gas and escape a molecular bond?
Turn into pixie dust and float away? There are many ways to fake such appearances. An organic gradient wipe comes to mind first.
Give us a more concrete example or description?

AFAIK, no, the eject button is not addressable in GERM/SPERM scripts. But you could certianly try pushing the button and see what happens in the log window. If the button registers a command with a set of codes associated, you can probably write a conditional script.
However, I’d REALLY have to ask you what YOU would think of a SOB who programmed a DVD so it couldn’t be ejected?
Let’s say you get a DVD in the mail from SoloFlex and you watch thei first fewmintues and realize you made a horrible mistake so you hit the eject button. But you are forced to watch another movie. so you hit eject again and you the torture movie starts over again.Me? I’d be thoroughly hosed. Not only would I discard the DVD, I’d probably put it the microwave just to make a statement, hoping the author would feel it. Then I’d remove all traces of and references to the source from my life.

The problems we have all been having with Compressor are not universal which makes them difficult or impossible to debug and fix.
The “unable” error is usually caused by Qmaster trying to find its children on your network even though you’ve never launched it. Disconnect FW and ethernet before launching Compressor, might work. Might not.
You do not need to launch Compressor to use it. you can use Batch Monitor or Batch Export. Or you can use a reference movie and simply bring that into your target app like iDVD or DVDSP. If you want to use Compressor regularly, get the manual printed and start taking it to the gym with you.
Compressor is superbly lame and full of inexplicably stupid programming glitches. Compressor’s MPEG2 facility has been almost useless since Tiger and FCP5 were released. Be sure you’ve got all of the latest updates but they probably won’t help. We’ve been screaming about it for months. See the Compressor forums at apple.com and here on the cow.

FCP has a bizarre frame reference, unlike any other normal video application. Inexplicable design decision by Apple.
Back in AE, add one more frame to the beginning and to the end of the comp, make these frames something you can easily see and trim, put something extra on them. Render it again and reimport it.
I think you’ll see instantly where the problem lies and how to fix it.bogiesan

Try switching off the Cinewave, notoriously bad card karma these days.
1 gig of RAM is just barely enough to run the OS so, yes, out of memory is quite likely with a bunch of PS files and a long project. You probably have very little room on your startup drive which is where the virtual memory swap files are kept. With only 1G of RAM, your swap file will be a gig but your project’s files need a space that is more like 2 gigs. You can also try slicing your project into 4 segments or reels. work on the independently until they’re gold and then nest the reels together into one larger sequence.

November 17, 2005 at 5:04 pm in reply to: Missing Render Files and Capture Files on FINAL CUT PRO 5[RedRider] “The “FIN” render file is in the Final Cut Pro Documents on our SATA RAID. This problem is getting increasingly worse. Instead of just being able to open Final Cut and get to work, I have to sit there and hit “Cancel” when it’s trying to access these render files. I’ve tried searching for them, but no luck.
ISSUE #2: Sometimes when I open Final Cut Pro some of my capture files are gone. I then have to batch capture them back in.”
Tracking files in FCP depends on the user placing them where FCP expects them to be. It’s possible to put capture and render files anywhere, even in places FCP suggests. But that doesn’t mean they will be located by the application. larryjordan.biz has an article on how to set up your media drive and how to tell FCP’s rpefs where the media files are to be kept.
1. Should be a Render Files folder on that drive that contains a folder for your project. If it’s being placed in folder called FCP Documents, FCP may not know to look for it there.
2. Same issue, maybe. There should be a Capture Scratch folder that contains a folder for your project. That’s where FCP looks. Now, to add to the confusion, here are several weird things that can tell FCP to delete files. However, they are 99% user-caused. The other 1% cannot be explained but your situation doesn’t sound like ti falls into that category. Without watching you work, it’s impossible to know, but I can honestly tell you that MOST of our “disappearing files” posts turn out to be user-errors, easily fixed.

Bummer. This project might not be any fun at all.
Then make sure your Firewire drive is properly formatted to hook up to the Macintosh later. I don’t think you can use the FAT32 feature available in Windows.bogiesan.

You’re not doing anything wrong. Compressor 2’s MPEG handler is notoriously, umm, terrible. We’ve been screaming about it since the day it got installed all over the world.
You can visit the Compressor forum at apple.com to commiserate with other sufferers and get some hints on how to make the best of this completely ludicrous situation.
