I have been working in a DV50 sequence – adding graphics etc – over 60 minute program
After i added a couple photoshop graphics – the right screen went red with the message “display unavailabe” – when I try to play the sequence again – it says OPERATION NOT ALLOWED – after a couple more tries it says “out of memory”. I am on a G5/4.5/1 gig/Cinewave
any time I try to play the sequence its says OPERATION NOT ALLOWED. If I play another smaller sequence – it runs fine – it is just the long one with the graphics. It will also not allow me to make any changes to the sequence –

    yikes
    thanks

Try switching off the Cinewave, notoriously bad card karma these days.
1 gig of RAM is just barely enough to run the OS so, yes, out of memory is quite likely with a bunch of PS files and a long project. You probably have very little room on your startup drive which is where the virtual memory swap files are kept. With only 1G of RAM, your swap file will be a gig but your project’s files need a space that is more like 2 gigs.

You can also try slicing your project into 4 segments or reels. work on the independently until they’re gold and then nest the reels together into one larger sequence.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
