WMV? That’s sooo twentieth century! What you wnat to do is wean your clients from wmv to Flash.
Your buddy is correct, export AVI directly from FC to a networked PC. Microsoft’s Media Encoder is free and produces superb 2-pass encodes to many formats. And it will do the multibitrate intelligent streaming stuff that no Mac app can do.
Anything you do on a Macintosh to create wmv media is a hack. The codecs are all inferior to the native MS elements. I have friends who use Parallels to run Winderz on their Macs but results from the MS Encoder are mixed. Easier and cheaper to buy a used $100 PC.
We use Flip4Mac in Compressor and Cleaner 6.5 but the best results are on the PC.

About all you can do is reinstall. You installed the non-pro, standard version of After Effects. If you look around, you should see you are missing lots of pro-only effects.

Our old versions of Cleaner 6 kept crashing at the end of every QT source file. Most bothersome.
Urge you to upgrade to Cleaner 6.5 for the Macintosh. Comes with lots of new stuff for all the newest wastes of bandwidth:
Divx for mobiles and high def
Flix FLV and SWF
Kinoma for a boatload of devices including phones and PSP
Real (really!)
Windows Media
and iPodbogiesan

He’s got some easy to use particle-smoke effects that don’t use particles.
The particle systems that come with AE are fully capable of creating all the steam, smoke, fog and water misty stuff you could ever want. Particular is ultr-cool but you don’t need Trapcode unless you know you need it.

Probably 98% of the information in the Meyer’s Videosyncrasies is still valid. The only thing HD adds to the issue is more pixels. Interlacing, aspect ratios, frame rates, pulldowns

I don’t think so. AE is not a FLash authoring application.
But check the online help system for FLASH. Should be your first stop for most questions.bogiesan

On the Mac, under the Edit or View menus in most applications, you will see a Special Characters item. Search here and on apple.com FCP forum for “volume not found” and unknown volume. Lots of possible causes and suggested solutions.
Often it’s a simple first aid-repair permissions issue but you should begin taking immediate steps to protect your projects. BACK THEM UP.
