Seems to be an issue (nay, let us all shout BUG!) with many of us but not all (so it’s not a bug, rats). On my Intel Macs, AECS3 hides but only fro the After Effects menu item. The keyboard shortcut won’t do it, can’t figure out why, it’s not assigned to anything else that i can tell. AECS3 has some other issues with its many panes. Some of them grab the focus when switching applications and remain on top of the other app. But FCP and Motion do that, too. I’m guessing it has something to do with the new-fangled single-window, multiple-pane interfaces we’re being force fed.

You can spice this up by duplicating one of the cylinder layers and making it slightly smaller.
You could use a gradient inside the arrows (applied to the upstream layers of the nested comp) so the air changes temperature as it rises. Don’t forget a drop shadow onto the prairie floor.
The rising arrows in the cloud can be animated very nicely using an expression to create trails.

Some of the best weather animation is even simpler, just cycling color bands easily accomplished with Colorama applied to a gradient.

    > Dave , yes I knew to do that, just hadn’t thought about lining them up with the orthographic views. < Over on theanvel.com, Dean has a fabulous 3D light tutorial where he has created two or three hallways with doors that open and close and then flies a camera though the scene. It's a great start on building cubic spaces. However, Dean has pulled most of his best stuff form his freebies section and put them all on disks for purchase. If you are going to spend much time in 3D space, you should go ahead and invest in Dean's disks and buy Angie Taylor "Creative AE7" book. ONe of the best ways to think about room panels and walls is to place the anchor point on the base of the object, whatever you think that should be. It takes a bit thought and planning. A wall's AP might be in the exact center of the bottom sillplate but a picture that hangs on that wall might have its AP on the centerline but just below the top edge so it can be leveled by rotation as if it were hung on a nail. bogiesan

If it bothers you tremendously on the computer display, be sure to test the output on a video monitor before committing to a process.

You have some choices, as others have pointed out. Another might be to resize the clip slightly to change the frequencies of the stripes interfering with scan lines; 2 to 5 percetn may be all you need.
Anything drastic will cause a bit of a change to the appearance of this particular set of clips and your client may not want that. We’ve had to sell a slight stylistic change to help hide artifacts like these. “Hey, let’s put this interview in a nice box and kinda tilt it so it picks up a glint.” Resizing the clip, adding a pixel of blur and putting a glint effect over the video hides lots of bad video.

Hiya Colin, long time and all that.

We just ran a few simple DV shots through Motion’s smoothing operations. It was amazing. Then we decided to try the Flow Motion time extension. Another killer render.

Wow, quite a package. Great promo movies, excellent drool factor. Thankfully, like running servers, this is a craft about which I care very little.
I guess we know where all of the energy at Apple has been focused: iPhones and Logic.

Wonder about the weird timing of the announcement, is there a pro audio show going on somewhere?

Ooh, want to jump into Expressions?
See this example at the most excellent Dan Ebberts’ site. Look for the little white balls flowing around the grid. With a few days of study, you, too, can modify the expression code to do pretty ,much what you need.

Card Dance or Shatter, probably precomped and time reversed. In shatter, there’d be not physics applied besides gravity.

The problem is “hundreds of dots” and getting the dots to line up with the tiles in Card Dance. In Shatter, you can use the alpha as the Shatter particles but it might not be that easy.

I love these two filters; they are way underused IMNSHO.

[ron darby] “Thank you so much
    Aloha Ron
    “

My pleasure, glad it was so simple!

And thanks for closing the thread with a positively solved resolution. Hardly anyone ever does that around here.
