[Ryan Stone] “This will be my first time editing HDV in AE. It’s a music video shot against a green screen and would like any tips or information that could help me get things right the first time around. “
Forget trying to get it right the first time. None of us ever do that.
[Ryan Stone] I’m importing and largely editing in Premiere and then copying to AE for the effects. Should I be deinterlacing in Premiere or AE> Also, any suggestions on making the process simpler and easier for my computer when dealing with multiple keyed layers? “
You shouldn’t deinterlace anything unless you know why you’re asking the question.
As other have said, working in a long GOP, highly compressed format like HDV’s MPEG2, you can save yourself tons of hassles by converting the footage you are going to be using to more conventional, easier to edit, format like.bogiesan

September 22, 2008 at 3:12 pm in reply to: Scribble Effect, More Accurate/Crisp AI MasksYou’re saying that applying Scribble is messing things up?
Or are you just complaining about the overall lack of quality of the vector art?
Your interpretation of “crisp” is totally subjective but it’s completely based on the pixel density of the target output. Whatever you bring into AE it’s going to be rasterized to a video codec, assuming you are going out to video, which you do not indicate. As you discovered, making vector art larger accomplishes nothing since the vectors don’t really change.bogiesan

You can search for this topic, we’ve seen it often.
Seems to me you will find that you have two copies of the .plist or FCP registration files in at least two different user account or system libraries. One is trumping the other. Be sure you have your original serial available after you try trashing these files.
Sorry, not on my FCP machine at the moment to tell you where they might be. Search the forum for your error screen content or wait a few hours for someone else to advise.bogiesan

There are innumerable proprietary solutions. We use Wirecast sometimes. Not often enough to like it. Depends on what you need for rez and your idea of interactivity since it’s getting pumped over the Internet in non-real time.

Nope.
You copy attributes and paste attributes. It is not a particularly selective process but it grows on you. You can also make a copy of a layer and replace the media retaining all filters and settings/keyframes.bogiesan

Unravel or unroll?
did you see the Beijing Olympics opening? They used a cylinder that moved across the filed and it left behind a long piece of paper. The cylinder was not actually moving but the image that was displayed on the scroll was animated to roll.
Not easy to do in Motion but think in terms of three separate projects. The first one reveals your base layer, the sheet of paper, with a mask. The second produces a cylinder with a moving surface. The third marries them together. Sync up the simulated cylinder with the movement of the mask.
Faking a cylinder in Motion is really difficult. Best I can come up with is a combination of Fun House and Scrape. There are probably some 3rd party filters for Motion that include cylinders, Boris, for instance and a fabulous cylinder for AE.
Hoe you get better advice soon.

for a mere $16 you can get it from one of the major Motion wonks, Mark Spencer:

Motion 3 Throwing Photos in 3D
Build an animated title sequence that simulates photos being thrown onto a surface.the only major flaw is Motion’s, there are no realworld shadows from thee otherwise realworldish lights.
Full disclosure: I am not affiliated with Mark in the least.

You may need to spend a few hours exploring Expressions. They can solve most of your physics issues by dynamically linking one layer to another using springs or inertia/momentum settings. Random selection of script/expression sites:
