You can almost always kill an operation three ways:
Navigate to Finder, under the Apple, Force Quit.
finder, Appleications, Utilities, Activity Montiro. find Compressor and hit the kill button.
In the dock, sometimes you can control or right click the app icon and hit quit.

Depends on your hardware capabilities and the codecs you are using but usually am alpha-based effect must be rendered. To not render puts much at risk.

On your PC or on your Macintosh?
Almost every PS application will allow you to exit without saving. It’s insane, yes, never understood that but it’s never been changed AFAIK.

I’ve been seeing several Macintosh products over the last few years that have adopted this insanely ser-aggressive close-means-exit paradigm. I’d be very surprised to learn that Adobe’s Mac versions have been changed to this silliness.

I want my 30 second spot to stay 30 seconds. If I change the speed on a clip, I want the span of clip on the timeline to stay the same but to have the new media available to slip and slid as I see fit.

Which was how Media 100 did it and i liked that a lot.

Kevin’s so right, we want FCP to behave like our original NLEs and, yes, that’s a silly way to go through life. However, there’s so much about FCP that is just SICK and WRONG.

Powerpoint totally blows, even for a Microsoft product it blows. Our PP guy is actually certified by MS and he can’t get PP to run embedded movies predictably.

PP tries to capture all of the prezo’s resources within the ppt file. If you add a 10 meg movie, what might have been a 500kb ppt file is not 10.5M. So your playback machine has to have the horsepower not only to run the WMV and PP but to load the stupid file into RAM or to be able to cache it.

It’s a nightmare. We have spent hours on the MS help forums for Powerpoint and we have never found a viable solution.

It will help many others in the future who search the AE forum for “Black Magic.” that’s how this creativecow.net thingy works.

Most BM users employ that system for proprietary and fast ingest and playback inside FCP or another NLE.

A simple google session will land you tons of interesting information about Motion JPG compression. Using MJPG in any of its many flavors requires every pixel to be taken from the BM codec, mapped through After Effects, and then processed out to the BM codec again. Since JPG is a very lossy compression system, this involves tons of extra decoding and recoding, overhead that is totally unnecessary if your effects are BM native. AE does not support BM’s onboard effects, does it? Since your Black Magic manual contains no information on After Effects, you need to talk to Black Magic or drop by a BM user forum.

Using what codec? Are you rendering with that card or is it just installed? PC or Mac, AE version?
