If all of your layers have separate alphas, I’d put them into a 3D sequence that has a floor set to receive lights and shadows. Set them for light transmission and place lights behind them. The light will cast a stained glass-like effect onto the floor and, if you move the camera, the reflections will stay nailed in 3d, totally accurately.

In Motion, we’d use a simple replicator, set it to spit out its children in a grid, and assign the source video to random start frames.
In AE, I might use a particle system like Foam. It has the ability to use a random start frame from the particle source. But, of course, Foam’s particles cannot be herded into a nice grid.

;’m not only AE machine at the moment but I think you can search the online help system for something like “random frame” and you should get a list of effects that offer the feature.

We’ve see similar posts on adobe.com, usually associated with text that suddenly appears aliased. this has happened to me, apparently out of no where. There have been no beneficial answers other than speculation about an odd QT update but most of receive the kindly but unhelpful suggestion, “likely user error.”

Google “kite surfing” and filter for promotional video for the mfr FLEXIFOIL, or google FlexiFoil. Go to their Web site to see if they have links to their promo and advertising films.

The effects in FlexiFoil’s promo pieces are similar to the ones in the wind surfing piece (terrible opening logo, designers failed to take into account their release medium: Web) but much more refined. You should be able to locate a long dialog on several blogs discussing the techniques used by the filmmakers.

Back in the olden days of SCSI, compression artifacts that showed up in different spots with each compression run could most likely be blamed on the connections to and pathways from the drives. SCSI cables, terminators, or SCSI card software.

If you cannot get a gut feeling for the likely cause (bad media, bad files, out of spec video levels, bad MPEG4 workflow, I dunno, lots of weird possibilities but you’re the only one who can tell if any of them are likely) you will need to debug your compression workflow.
Try using a shorter clip for your many rounds of tests so you’re not wasting a bunch of time. Export the shorter clip to a different drive and write the compression output to a different drive.
