Without knowing everything about your project there’s no way to really know if the render time was typical or the result of you simply not knowing how the render pipeline works. There are many shortcuts and hacks that streamline rendering in AE but 3D with lights, light rays, and motion blur will have an exponential effect on rendering. I’ve never used Maya but it’s probably optimized for OpenGL and has shading routines built into all of its higher functions. AE has no such.

Not at my AE machine today but look in the help system for the list of keyboard shortcuts, I think you want NUDGE.
Or wait a few more hours and one of the wonks will drop by with the answer for you.bogiesan

There is no quick way to create storyboards in AE which is not an art application. Build your graphics and elements in an application with which you are already familiar.
Most character animators use AE to rough out their scenes, a process known as “animatics.” That topic can be researched in depth on the Internet.

Save some real money and buy TT’s AE6!
The series with Ko is superbly built and the tutorial files will tax your capabilities to pay attention, retain information, and to use CS3’s new array of features.
You must have both disks, though. Apparently the OP’s friend does not have “Advanced AE CS3” or we wouldn’t be having this discussion.Ko’s stage presence is not the same as Brian’s and Steve’s and the format of the disks has been changed to refelct changes in TT’s audience profiles. Maybe you don’t fit that profile but I’d save up to buy the new CS4 version if I were you or did not have any experience with serious AE training tools.

Ultimate simplicity is to purchase one of the DIGIEFFECTS packages that contains that specific text effect. It’s elegant and direct. You might think it’s a bit expensive but you get a bunch of other timelessly classic AE filters in the pacakage. And you must consider the cost of experimenting, failing, and never really getting what you want.
Umm, I’m not at my AE machine today to tell you which of the DigiEffrects packages you need. They make Aurorix, Delerium, and Berserk.

January 17, 2009 at 5:25 pm in reply to: Can someone write a guide on cloning this effect?we see this question often these days. Not since the “HP Frames” spot ahve wee seen such interest in a single technique.
The spot has a huge online following and appears to have several how-we-did-it blogs. If you want it to work well enough to emulate the spot, you will need motion capture. If you find some of the blog entries and they appear legit, please a few of them here.

Dubbing 3/4″ to a superior codec without enhancement and time base stabilization is pointless. Go directly to DV or even to VHS.
There is a very good possibility you will not be able to dub these tapes because the oxide is going to peel off. try to locate a non-SP 3/4″ machine. The SP models used much more head-to-tape penetration and tension.

PIP?

It’s easy to cut and paste (or express) the emitter location to any motion path’s position keyframes.

Shoot some tgest footage before you commit. You may find you simply do not have the facilities to control the lighting.I don’t know Canons, is it DV? If so, be sure you understand the limitations of your keyer BEFORE you shoot. Interlaced DV is a terrible key source, absolutely awful. A drummer is moving rapidly and you will not get good mattes around the blurred sticks and arms unless you use a fast shutter and that means more light.
