    Ouch.
Nothing like new software to make you nervous and point out less obvious flaws.
    Try these folks?

February 3, 2009 at 12:09 am in reply to: H.264 for Flash

[Mick Haensler] “. I’m going to give them an H.264 file to start with though something tells me they’re going to need an actual FLV file.”

That’s not a good workflow. Give them your best video as a media file, not a compressed delivery format.

We have seen this discussion go many different directions. The path you take is based on your client’s needs or delusions. Your clients may think they know how to transcode to Flash. I don’t think they do or they wouldn’t be asking for h264. They’d be asking for an uncompressed, or not-as-throughly-processed video file.

February 3, 2009 at 12:03 am in reply to: FCP compression export — picture edit does not match

    Export to what?

Try this, export a self-contained movie using the sequence settings.
View it, Is it okay? If so, take it to Compressor. If not, post back

Talk to a Captivate expert first but you should be able to export in different file formats and codecs. Stick to normal editing formats like QT. SWF is more of a delivery format meant for streaming or interactivity.

You probably do not have the spatial keyframe interpolation set correctly. View the camera path and see if the path has curves around the keyframe positions. If so, change to linear.

February 2, 2009 at 5:47 pm in reply to: Power Mac G5 worth the upgrade?

If this were me, I’d be trying to locate a used Intel machine and keeping the G5 for standby and other non-video applications.
I think you’re going to get orphaned sooner or later with new releases of the Mac OS and Apple’s video suites.
You will REALLY like Leopard on an Intel running a 3870 card.

February 2, 2009 at 5:36 pm in reply to: Caustics stream

[Rob Bryson] “But I was wondering if it’s possible to make the water look like it’s flowing (using Caustics), like a stream? “

Not really. Caustics is not a particle system that emulates anything that “flows.” You create your flowing water and then apply Caustics to your flowing water move to make it look more real.

February 2, 2009 at 5:34 pm in reply to: Export settings in AE

[Guy Thompson] “Good old trial and error…”

True, but exporting out of AE would be my last choice for attempting to control the experiments. Make your movie in AE, use a dedicated encoding system to create your web-friendly files.

As Guy, notes, there are tradeoffs you must make between all of the available parameters in order to achieve your compromise between file size and quality. There are factors you cannot control such as the end-to-end delivery speed of your viewers.

[Jason Tan] “Rendering have no problem and when i tried to export the .mov to .avi , the video couldn’t play. So I tried reduce the resolution to 6400×720 pixel (5 screens) and export again. PERFECT !!!!!! “

Quite likely the problem lies with your playback, not with AE.
