You must have the alpha channel active in the rendering settings and you must properly interpret the alpha when importing. It’s all in the manuals and help system but not exactly easy to find. Proprely rendering and interpreting alphas are two issues we see around often. You might check the AE Basics forum for additional assistance in how to figure this out.

[John Haggard] “And with the file that it created, “untitled-av” Do you think there is anyway to fix that? It is about 16GB and its like the video is right there, but it just wont open it. “
There is nothing that can be done to that file AFAIK. Going deep geek with a file editor application (heck, it’s only a Unix file) might enable you write a file closure code string. know anyone who can do that? There’s probably someone in your area who can perform that kind of magic.
I don’t want to make this any worse for you than it is but us old timers will be bookmarking this thread to
illustrate everything that’s wrong with capturing live events directly to disk via FCP.bogiesan

RAM usage in AE is a question of old code trying to run on modern systems.
CS4 and OS10.5+ are helping to use more RAM but only on Intels, AFAIK.
Working at home, you have only a few choices. Reduce your expectations or reduce yor demands.

You can check the specifications at Adobe…no, wait, you can’t. The only stuff that’s readily available is all about CS4.
You didn’t tell us what card you really have but I’d start with that manufacturer. See what they have available now. But you really don’t gain much with After Effects when it comes to rendering unless your composition depends on OpenGL textures and shaders and your card can actually do that and none of them can. OpenGL remains a cruel joke on the Macintosh.
If rendering is an issue for you, and it for everyone, you simply have to learn how to cope or you have to figure out how to increase your processing power and at the moment that means a new Macintosh. If you expect AE to make money for you, you must update. Otherwise you revamp your workflow to minimize your downtime and wait times. Those of us who have been using AE for 10 years already know how to do this and you can find lots of pointers if you search this forum. You will, of course, need to disregard my rants about “you impatient kids.”

Too many possibilities for interpreting the term WATER FOUNTAIN.
A drinking fountain? Or something more, umm, architecutral?https://www.fountainsinthecity.com/visit/famous_fountains.html
After Effects is not a very good fluid simulation package, even with a bunch of expensive plugins. But Foam, Particle World, Caustics, and WaveWorld, along with some fractal movies, can create excellent water simulations.
The Trapcode lobbyists will chime in soon, give them a few hours to organize some suggestions and links for you.

February 12, 2009 at 11:12 pm in reply to: Title Creation, Two Different Fonts in Text Generatorthis is why many of us use Photoshop to compose titles and credits.
I approach a project like this by composing two separate text objects, one justified left and one justified right. I place them into a sequence side by side and then nest the sequence. You move the nested sequence not the text objects.
Or you can build two custom-sized sequences that are much taller than a normal video clip. Place two text objects side by side.
There are other ways but if your text is vital, use an image editor.

February 12, 2009 at 11:07 pm in reply to: 29.97 Quicktime Frame Rate changes to 23.98 in FCPJohn, very cool. this sort of glitch is so weirdly random, I never would have considered your solution. In fact, I’ve never even opened Cinema Tools in FCS2.

Looked more like six panels in the real life video wall. I noticed the zoom outs weren’t in perspective, they appeared to be straight scale operations.
You can create a custom-sized sequence that is three screens wide and two screens high (maybe 1280 wide and 480 high), place your clips into the discrete sections as Walter suggested and render the whole movie. Bring the rendered movie back into FCP and use it like any other clip. if you need more controllable interactivity you’ll need to nest the video wall clip into your main comp.

We see inquiries about render time at least twice a week so a search of the forum will yield tons of useful information. (Mostly you’ll see rants form me about working in AE1 and AE2 on glacial Macs. I have no patience with you kids who complain about rendering time.(
Because some of us grew up with AE as the Macintosh evolved, we’ve developed workflows based around making as many decisions about render-intensive effects as late in the process as possible. We use proxies and prerenders whenever possible to avoid committing huge resources to output that doesn’t need to change.bogiesan

[Joe Espina] “How do I get my finder window when I Export a Movie to not be minimized? “
Rephrase this please. Is this an issue with FCP, your export settings, or the Finder?
