FCP froze during live capture
Posted by John Haggard on February 16, 2009 at 5:50 pmWhen FCP froze during a live capture, I had to force quite; therefore leaving me with a file that quicktime or FCP wont open. It is like “untitled-av” The size seems to be correct, but I just cannot open it with any program.

February 16, 2009 at 9:03 pmI have had similar experiences, and I have always been out of luck. The file was not written completely because of the glitch. You’re going to have to capture again. If you’re capturing a large amount of footage, I suggest breaking it up if this is a pretty consistent problem for you. Good luck.

February 17, 2009 at 2:14 amIf by “live capture” you mean “without tape” and capturing an event as-it-happened…
Oops! You’re likely out of luck.
I’ve always been afraid of not “getting the shot” because of a capture glitch.
Hope you have a tape backup. -

February 17, 2009 at 3:25 amI haven’t had a problem with capturing live with no tape until now. I knew something would happen one day, but the only reason I had to “force quit” FCP was because I would hit ESC and it wouldn’t stop capturing. Do you know what would cause that? Sometimes it I hit a several times it will finally stop capturing. And with the file that it created, “untitled-av” Do you think there is anyway to fix that? It is about 16GB and its like the video is right there, but it just wont open it.

There is nothing that can be done to that file AFAIK. Going deep geek with a file editor application (heck, it’s only a Unix file) might enable you write a file closure code string. know anyone who can do that? There’s probably someone in your area who can perform that kind of magic.
I don’t want to make this any worse for you than it is but us old timers will be bookmarking this thread to
illustrate everything that’s wrong with capturing live events directly to disk via FCP.bogiesan
