Many possibilities but let’s start with “still has lines running through it.” You mean it’s not supposed to? Is the original footage interlaced? Are you viewing on an interlaced display?

When you place an image into FCP’s timeline, it is automatically scaled to fit the timeline. So when you send it to Motion, it arrives there after FCP has scaled it.

You don’t want to do that. you want to import the images directly into the Motion project form your disk, not from the FCP timeline.

I don’t mean to sound mean, but your post is exactly why those of us who know better never recommend anyone ever rely on a live capture into the Macintosh. Not ever. Tape rules. Heck, VHS is more reliable than your hard drive.

You can view the US government site for some advice, just search for PARODY.

“Parody” requires audience familiarity. Otherwise, you’re putting forth something you are claiming to be yor own. Is your audience going to appreciate the parody or are you just ripping off someone else’s creativity?

You want to do a filtered google for Jan Ozer, he’ is the überwonk for everything about compression and transcoding. Most of his tests and reviews are online at several of the major magazines. If you expect to make a living handling encodes, you should invest in his outrageously thorough DVD.
