I this is what fixed the problem then the method is sound. The programs I suggested just do this for you rather than you having to go find that file each time. It also gives you the option of backing up the files before you trash the plist.

If you have de-interlaced the footage then this means that you are only providing half of the video signal. 1 field. so there is no point in using a progressive output.

If you capture the DV firewire as a Progressive image and edit that image natively then you might want to output a progressive DVD.

the safest thing to do is select same as source or run a few tests on short passages and compare the compression on the tv screen. Make a slate over each one so that you know what you are watching.

So I guess 6.0 will mean some new driver releases for K2? Since this version of FCP is going to work on some G4 Macs, I am making the big assumption that FCP 6 will work with Legacy AJA Products?

I’ll just add this. THere is now an installed user base of 800,000. That is almost 1 million sold versions of FCP. I’d like to know how many avids are still kicking around. The sheer numbers of users will end up making it harder to find people to edit on an avid. Eventually, it will be even more difficult to find someone who has heard of one.

BetaMax might hae been better than VHS. But the user base won. Avid has not moved rapidly enough and frankly, the diversity of Apple has allowed them to pool the resources to attack this market very aggressively.

I hope they go after pro tools this hard next. It’s interesting that they added OMF support to Soundtrack, though I am surprised it’s not a version of XML. But this means I could do a decent 5.1 mix in Soundtrack fram an AVID omf.

Hmmm. Just where might they take logic the next time the overhaul that.

If they would have told me that the upgrade was going to be 499 I would have bought it just based on how much value Apple gives it’s customers based on previous “pay for” upgrades.

How many times do you think you’ll be using software upgrade for FREE in the coming year. A piece of what you are paying for is the constant upgrade and improvement.

This has to be one of the most riiculous threads I have read in a long time. I have to respond just because I can not believe that any informed person would think that this is a rip off.

You should apply it AFTER all color correction and on the clips that are not safe.

You might want to nest the sequence and place it on the nest, but understand that dropping it on, without color correction can yield iffy results.

My Thoughts.

Break the film into acts (reels) no more than 20 minutes in length. This is a standard film indusrty thing as 35mm film rolls are not longer than 22 minutes.

Within each of these acts I create a folder

ACT 1
ACT 2
ACT 3

Then sequences for each scene in the act. I thne give these sequences a leading number:

001_Opening_Version1.1
002_Apartment_Version1.5

Etc. and so on. I do this because if I want to cnage the assemble of each scene I can just change the order to rearrange the structure.

If you select all of these scenes and option drag them into a new timeline, you will see that they are not nested.

I’ll do this, going back to the original scenes, until I have a cut that I like, thenI fine cut the acts, bring them to time, mix music, etc.

It’s anal, but it works and it is a system that can be adapted to many people in the process.

Selct the clip.

Right clip onthe clip

Select remove attributes

Check Filters int eh window that appears.
Click OK

This gets you back to the clean origianl clip
