Experitment with motion for text. It round trips better from FCP and it is a very clean renderer. It’s like using automatic duck to go to AE, but I think motion is a very strong app and when the GFX cards get more RAM and are faster, then it will really take off.

I know I am going to get killled for this but I actaully would rather place text on the screen using the numberical approach. It’s the designer in me.
I have yet to see a perfect titler in an NLE. they all pretty much stink and you need third party to do anything not basic.
Even Avid’s titler opens a whole other interface and has it’s fair share of problems. (do you really want to move text in an AVID with their DVE package?

It’s worth it for retimeing, the Killer keyers and when you persist rotopaint a microphone or a lightstand out of a shot for the first time, you will think you’ve found god.
Steep curve, but brillliantly laid out software. Everything is following this NODE based structure (color, etc) so it is worth understanding this kind of compositing.

Does it do this if you use Print to video?
Have you tried it to another deck.
I am going to give you one tiny tip.
Move one of those early audio edits by one or two frames and see if the problem persists.

I would guess open timeline means open timeline. Perhaps what would be more important is whether the drives have the speed to keep up with the data rates and compression of the various formats.
I am curious to know what “under the hood power” Apple actually put into the software to allow it to do this. It seems a bit cagey to me. It must be putting a lot of work on the CPU processor to actually do the math on all of these formats at once.
Perhaps the CPU processing has gotten powerful enough to do what daughtercard processing used to do, but I am sure there will be a “letdown factor” when the software is on my machine. Like unlimited RT, was a bit of a letdown (or maybe a more than oversold feature), I suspect that open timeline might be less exciting when the lights of Vegas dim as the Apple vans pull away from NAB.

Maybe FCP is reporting eroneuos dropped frames. This has been know to happen if not everything as speaking correctly between QT and FCP. Why not try the output without the drop frames warning, monitor the deck and actually see if the audio is dropping.
It wouldn’t be the first time FCO reported dropped frames incorrectly.

Text tool bags.
Boris provides a clean quality, non moving basic text tool. Motiona and livetype were brought in to do the job.
The AVID text tool is a smidge better than Boris, but NLE’s and text tool shave always been a nightmare. Any critical typography for video needs to be handled with a vector based tool.
AE does a fine job, but it’s not an NLE. You can change the text size with the plain old text tool, it’s in the controls.

Try to rewire how the firewire signal is being routed. Take everything else off the firewire bus.
How full is the SATA drive?
Is it an edited timeline you are outputting?

Capture all of the media to one codec.
Or transcode existing media to one codec. I make all the DV25 DV 50.
